Senior Data Analyst

Bonnier Books UK is looking for a senior data analyst to join the operations and IT team in Chelsea, London. Reporting to the head of business operations, the senior data analyst will play a key role in the implementation and adoption of a new BI setup for the business. The role involves coordinating closely with key members of the IT team and acting as the point of contact in operations for all queries relating to BI.

The role will have a direct contribution to shaping the backend architecture of business databases, subsequently establishing frontend usage of the new BI tool. The role will also work closely with key stakeholders in the creation, curation and implementation of best practice relating to inward and outward data flow and processing.

As a member of a small team who interact with multiple areas of the business and are given new problems to solve at short notice, the ideal candidate will highly value autonomy, challenge and novelty. The candidate will be comfortable with pro-actively driving change and constructively challenging existing practices in the business, whilst also being a flexible member of an IT and operations team with a solution-led attitude.

Essential job functions/responsibilities

  • Manage organisation use of BI tools in both backend and frontend. Actively collaborate with the IT and operations team, as well as key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for maintaining integrity of data flows into and out of the business, especially when such data impacts important business decisions or processes.
  • Make key decisions related to ETL and ELT pipelines required by the business. Support implementation and expansion of data pipelines and collaborate with operations to automate data prep wherever possible.
  • Create dashboards and presentations using Power BI and similar tools for stakeholders throughout the business. Train departmental users in the correct usage of Power BI.
  • Lead efforts to research and evaluate new tools and capabilities in data analytics. Present evaluations to wider teams, particularly where research relates to the book publishing industry.

Skills & Requirements

Experience and skills

Essential:

  • Experience with ETL/ELT data and visualisation using modern tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx or similar.
  • Strong skill foundation using Excel and traditional tools and methods for data curation, exploration and presentation.
  • Experience in data preparation, i.e. collection, curation, manipulation, analysis, modelling and reporting of data from diverse data sets.
  • Experience with SQL or comparable technologies relating to database usage, including setting up dataflows for ingestion of data to said database(s).
  • Confident communicating to all levels of the business. Demonstratable ability to make technical recommendations and convey complex data to high-level stakeholders in plain language/simple reports.
  • Demonstratable organisational skills.
  • Able to demonstrate confident self-direction and flexibility when dealing with a variety of challenges at different scales and complexities.
  • Confident working independently in a small-team environment.

Desired but not essential:

  • Experience programming and/or scripting and data manipulation using languages such as Python, R, JS, VBA or similar. Willing to learn required languages and technologies.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the media, arts and/or creative products industry.
