Northvolt is playing an integral part of the transformation away from a carbon-based energy society towards a green and zero-carbon footprint world, with the help of green batteries. Developing and qualifying li-ion batteries to the market requires a vast amount of test and validations of the battery cells before they are ready for production in Northvolt Gigafactories. Northvolt is currently investing heavily into the battery development and validation center in Västerås.

As a Project Manager – Test Facilities, you will be responsible for the project management of projects related to the R&D test facility expansion within Northvolt in Västerås. The main tasks are to plan, coordinate and follow-up the project and to ensure that the progress is according to the expectation. The role includes close interaction with engineers and experts within the technical, procurement, quality, construction, finance areas at Northvolt. The main responsibilities and focus are to ensure that Northvolt can excel and progress in the expansion of test-facilities which are needed for a state-of-the-art and highly automated battery development cluster.

Key responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Plan, arrange, coordinate and follow-up projects related to the R&D lab expansions and improvements within the li-ion battery test and development area
  • Work closely, and progress the projects together with Northvolt experts and specialists from technical, procurement, quality, construction, finance areas
  • Set-up and develop Northvolt battery system test environment, both by test facilities and in-house facility
  • Arrange and plan certification towards battery standards and be the regulatory guidance to the whole team
  • Hand-over of functioning R&D test facilities to the Northvolt operation and development organization.
  • Drive projects under the Northvolt R&D strategy framework to improve the development and validation capabilities of the company

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • A degree in PhD or MSc in relevant field of science
  • 4-6 years of experience in project management of complex projects
  • Project Management certification (PMP, CPM or similar) is a plus
  • Experience with R&D, li-ion battery testing and high voltage testing is highly preferred
  • Leadership and coordinating skills in a highly flexible and frequent changing environment is a must
  • Experience working with different standards and testing for certification for li-ion batteries.
  • Approval of working with high voltage according to Swedish law and safety standards is a big plus
  • Exceptionally good negotiation and problem-solving skill

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration.
