Igloo Books is hiring a junior designer to join the creative team in Sywell, Northampton. The junior designer is responsible for project managing book design projects, guiding creative direction and ensuring a design quality and technical accuracy is delivered.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Creatively guide and coordinate book design projects in line with creative briefs and in-house style guidelines.
  • Ensure all files are coordinated through the correct design approval workflows.
  • Research and propose artists for new projects and manage the commissioning process once approved.
  • Research, brief, layout, art edit and sign-off on a wide range of book design projects.
  • Ensure all files are delivered to required technical standards and design quality during all stages of the project (including final files, plotters and advances).
  • Project manage design projects with publishing partners, ensuring key milestones are achieved.
  • Liaise with and manage relationships with external contributors, including packagers, illustrators and other freelance agents.
  • Problem solve and escalate problems as necessary to ensure schedules are maintained.
  • Ad-hoc design duties as required.

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications and experience

  • Confident user of the Adobe Suite (predominantly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator).
  • Project management skills.
  • Confident working closely with a friendly, creative team and advising team members on a range of design projects.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Confident communicating with external suppliers and internal staff at all levels of the business.
