Igloo Books has an opportunity for a creative and organised production editor to join the team in Sywell, Northamptonshire.

The production editor will be responsible for managing a wide range of books across the publishing list. The production editor will support the head of publishing with the ongoing creation of the Igloo Books publishing program, including new product development and managing the list to ensure quality and timely delivery.

This is a role that works across global publishing markets with high-profile brands and is suited to an experienced editor looking to further develop their skillset.

Essential job functions/responsibilities:

  • Work with the head of publishing on all tasks relating to the creation of the publishing programme, working to a clear strategy.
  • Work with the head of publishing to ensure all proposed titles meet the business goals of the company and ultimately deliver a profitable publishing programme.
  • Create detailed specification briefs and liaise with production department to ensure the delivery of high-quality books and products.
  • Mentor and guide other members of the publishing and production teams.
  • Assist in coordinating production of new books in line with editorial and creative briefs. Ensure all files are coordinated through the correct approval workflow for each team.
  • Ensure the publishing teams are on track with publishing schedules and business KPIs.
  • Actively research market trends and identify any gaps in the publishing market for new products.
  • Project manage specific projects in partnership with publishers, making sure key milestones are kept to and final files are supplied on time.
  • Research, write, copyedit and proofread and give final approval on a wide range of books across a range of formats.
  • Ensure all publishing files are editorially accurate and created in line with the in-house style guidelines and the required quality level during all stages (including finalised files, plotters and advances).
  • Liaise with and coordinate 3rd-party contributors, including; packagers, illustrators, authors, licensors and other freelance agents.
  • Problem-solve within the team and escalate issues appropriately to ensure publishing deadlines are achieved.

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications and experience

  • Working knowledge of book formats, age-ranges and genre.
  • Confident and functional understanding of the publishing editorial process.
  • Organisation skills.
  • The ability to prioritise and manage competing deadlines and support other team members in doing the same.
  • People management skills.
  • Pro-active problem-solving skills.
  • An excellent communicator comfortable working with a friendly in-house team and a range of external suppliers and contributors.
  • Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills.
