General Summary

Bonnier Books UK has an exciting opportunity for a senior commissioning editor to join the team, working on a range of novelty, non-fiction and picture books across the Templar and Big Picture Press lists. We’re looking for a highly competent, creative and organised editor, with commercial awareness and a can-do attitude. You’ll be responsible for acquiring and commissioning new titles, as well as managing and editing at all stages from concept to finished files.

Skills & Requirements

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Project manage books in close collaboration with the design and production teams, ensuring books are produced to the quality and accuracy required and to schedule.
  • Play a key role in new idea generation, commissioning and acquisitions, including researching and suggesting ideas for the future publishing list.
  • Attend and present at regular acquisitions meetings.
  • Brief, edit, copy-edit and proofread a range of books.
  • Liaise with freelance contributors, including illustrators, authors and designers.
  • Support junior members of the team.
  • Various other project duties, including writing sales copy, drawing up project budgets and checking contracts.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in children’s publishing.
  • Experience working on novelty formats, including development and costing.
  • An advanced understanding of formats, age ranges and subject matters.
  • Project management skills, meticulous time management and strong interpersonal skills.
