Site Reliability Engineer / Infrastructure Developer

  • Application Deadline: Aug. 1, 2019
  • Oslo

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer in one of Norway's biggest in-house technology companies.

You will become an active participant in one of the biggest and most active in-house development cultures in Norway. You will work with top technologies like Kubernetes, Flannel, Kafka, the Elastic stack, Prometheus and HAProxy.

One application in Kubernetes 3 years ago has become 600 Kubernetes production microservices. Come help us embrace Knative and other technologies giving us a competitive edge. You will be sitting in a building together with 170 developers who build and safely release to production 250 times a day. Your future 10-15 person strong team ensures the infrastructure services are reliable and optimized for the FINN architecture. You will collaboratively add to the technology mix to make sure FINN.no stays ahead of competition.

94% of our applications run as Kubernetes workloads, so you will mostly avoid legacy infrastructure. You should understand infrastructure concepts like compute, storage, and networks. The reason being that this is the fundamentals for the Kubernetes orchestration, load balancing, databases, and distributed infrastructure configuration we utilize. You will get in close contact with log and metrics aggregation services, continuous integration & deployment services and artifact storage. Please see the infrastructure at FINN blog post for more details. We like working with distributed systems and cloud services as they are becoming a paramount part of our infrastructure.

In FINN decisions are made at the lowest possible level as every employee is trusted to act in the best interest of the company. In return we offer flexible work hours and the ability to take home office on demand, a diverse and inclusive work environment, kind and considerate colleagues, and a wonderful canteen that caters to people with different dietary needs.

You spend one third of your day at work and we think it should be an uplifting and pleasant experience. Join our internal technical women's network (we meet periodically for talks, workshops and socializing), or use English alongside Norwegian as a working language (with Finn-sponsored Norwegian language lessons). You will work at a company that performs regular salary audits to balance compensation across groups, and has a transparent hiring process. We won’t ask you to code on a whiteboard during an interview.

This - in combination with a clear set of values - places FINN in the top 3 great places to work.

FYI: The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) discipline that incorporates aspects of software engineering and applies them to infrastructure and operations problems. The main goals are to create ultra-scalable and highly reliable software systems. According to Ben Treynor, founder of Google's Site Reliability Team, SRE is "what happens when a software engineer is tasked with what used to be called operations." See DevOps vs SRE.

We are completely Linux based using open source and cloud services and we develop solutions in-house when required. We expect you to want to make great infrastructure services even greater, to contribute to legacy solutions finding paths to become mainstream, and we expect you to be an eager learner, contributor, and to be a good colleague for the rest of your team.

Applicants typically like to code and enjoy pair programming :)

About the company
