Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a Technical Project Leader (Automotive) to join our growing Battery Systems team in Stockholm.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in taking part of developing li-ion battery systems to electromobility applications within the automotive segment. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

At Battery Systems within Northvolt, we develop full Li-ion battery systems including both cooling system and software. We are now in the stage of designing and industrializing our concept and therefore we are looking for a Technical Project Leader to take responsibility the full way from design to manufacturing of our solution.

Responsibilities:

  • Support functional and geometric integration of all components on battery module and battery system level
  • Support preparation of specifications and, if required, supplier specifications for the entire battery system and sub-systems (Requirements Engineering)
  • Ownerships of part or the energy storage systems (ESS), and working with suppliers and design engineering team to achieve effective, innovative, lightweight designs
  • Providing attribute delivery support and managing releases for ESS, and supporting assembly, simulation, and supplier management
  • Participating in vehicle level meetings for ESS integration into wider Powertrain systems and vehicle.
  • Due to the package and spatial constraints, working closely with ESS component suppliers, Customer Concept team, Digital Mock-Up team, to ensure the systems meet programme targets
  • Required involvement in test and validation tasks and assessment of results (DVP preparation, planning and implementation)
  • Support preparation of battery test specifications based on relevant regulations and international/customer standards and requirements
  • Liaise with relevant teams to direct battery design tasks (i.e. simulation, component engineers, testing, suppliers and manufacturing)
  • Support the preparation of battery system and component quality documentation (boundary diagrams, P diagrams, robustness check lists, FMEAs and test plans)
  • Support preparation of design development plans - time schedules, work flow in the scope of serial projects and prototype projects

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar (minimum 2:1)
  • Excellent understanding of HV battery design fundamentals including safety standards and regulations
  • Basic understanding of cell construction and chemistries
  • Experience in system design and testing of battery packs, preferably in the automotive or commercial vehicle industries
  • Strong communication, teamwork and leading abilities
  • Good written and oral English and competent presentation skills
  • Willing to travel

Preferable:

  • Project Management experience
  • Member of a relevant professional institute (e.g. IET, IMechE)
  • Driving license
  • Chartered / Professional Engineer status
