Northvolt has an exciting job offer for an experienced Quality manager to join our passionate team in Västerås as the manager of product, process and production Quality in the factory. The role also has a unique option of re-locating to Skellefteå in future, if the candidate prefers.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in establishing the highest quality performance in our production in Västerås, one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

The Production Quality Manager and the team will drive bold quality improvements, achieve excellent results and KPI's and systematically prevent non-conformances. You will have an opportunity to be an effective organisational leader and a member of the factory management team. You will closely cooperate with other Northvolt teams such as Production, Maintenance, Process Engineering and R&D. You will ensure that the quality system is efficient and effective in measuring, evaluating and improving quality across programs, services, operations and products. You will report directly to the Director of Quality.

Key responsibilities

  • Defining Quality strategy, approach and execution, at Global Quality level and in local Factory.
  • Leading and directing the Quality team at Northvolt Labs in Västerås.
  • Establish the Quality excellence roadmap and drive the execution from first start-up of commissioning activities to a high level of reliability and robustness
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise within Quality Management.
  • Be accountable for the product and process quality, mentor and provide quality leadership to own team and other factory staff
  • Set bold Quality targets, e.g. process capability, variability and non-conformances
  • Drive recruitment to the team, induction planning, training and performance evaluation of quality and production employees.
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise within the field of Quality Management and quality improvement methodology such as Lean Six Sigma
  • Monitoring of all the Quality activities, test results, defects and non conformities, root cause analysis/8D investigations and identifying areas of improvement as well as improving the QMS. Implement steps required to improve the processes.

Skills & Requirements

  • Relevant University Degree
  • Strong experience and skill in supporting IT solutions (quality, dashboards, reporting, ERP).
  • Fluent English.
  • Quality Management experience in high volume manufacturing, e.g. from automotive sector.
  • Be a strong leader with experience in implementing and shaping the company's Quality processes, strategies and performance
  • Have strong technical skills, both functional and non-functional, manual and automation, ideally in a continuous delivery environment.
  • Strong communication skills with all the key stakeholders to ensure Quality vision is understood and implemented correctly.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, six-sigma (green or black belt), 8D, 5S, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IATF 16949.
  • Be an advocate of the Quality Management System, Continuous Improvement and industry recognised Best Practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of Risk Management, Risk Identification and Risked Based approaches.
  • Flexible with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Proactive, strong-minded, quick thinker and assertive.
  • Experience in building a successful Quality organisation and achieving high quality performance.

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.
