Senior Mobile Developer (Android focus / KMP) at tv.nu

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Schibsted & Vend Polska is a joint venture between two leading Nordic entities – a major media house, Schibsted, and a dynamic marketplace leader, Vend. With over 300 software engineers in Kraków and Gdańsk, we provide high-quality technological solutions that support the operations and innovations of both parent companies.

About tv.nu and the team

Ever spent more time looking for something to watch than actually watching it? That's the problem we're helping people solve.

tv.nu is one of Sweden's strongest digital brands, helping over 1.1 million users discover what to watch across TV, streaming, and sports.

We're a small, friendly, product-focused team of engineers, designers, and product managers who work closely together to make that experience better every day.

Our native mobile apps are especially important to us. They're where our most loyal users spend their time, and where many of our product decisions make a real difference.

We're looking for a Senior Android Developer who enjoys taking ownership, solving interesting technical challenges, and working with people who care about what they build.

You'll join the tv.nu team, collaborating with Schibsted, and have a real say in how our mobile apps evolve.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Android app is a mature Kotlin codebase, and we're in the middle of an important modernization journey.

We're moving from XML to Jetpack Compose and building on Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) as our long-term mobile architecture. The idea is to share business logic between Android and iOS while keeping the best of fully native user experiences on both platforms.

There's plenty of interesting engineering work ahead, and you'll help shape how we approach it.

As our Android expert, you'll take the lead on the Android app while working closely with our iOS developer on the shared KMP layer.

We believe in shared ownership across our mobile platforms. While Android will be your primary focus, you'll collaborate closely on our KMP architecture and gradually contribute to iOS development as well.

What you'll be working on:

  • Own and evolve our Android app, from building features to improving performance, stability, quality, and releases.
  • Drive our transition to Jetpack Compose, tackling real-world challenges such as integrating native ad rendering with Compose's lifecycle.
  • Shape our Kotlin Multiplatform architecture, working alongside our iOS developer on shared networking, data models, business logic, and analytics.
  • Collaborate across Android and iOS, pairing on cross-platform features and gradually building the skills to contribute smaller iOS changes when needed.
  • Make thoughtful architectural decisions, balancing product needs, development speed, and long-term maintainability.
  • Work closely with product, design, and backend colleagues, sharing ideas, challenging assumptions, and finding practical solutions together.
  • Explore AI-assisted engineering workflows, experimenting with tools and approaches that can make our development process better.

You'll have the autonomy to make technical decisions, but you won't be working in isolation. We believe the best solutions come from combining individual ownership with open discussions and shared expertise.

ABOUT YOU:

We're looking for someone who enjoys building products that people actually use, takes pride in writing maintainable code, and likes figuring things out together with others.

You don't need to know everything about both mobile platforms. Strong Android expertise, curiosity, and a willingness to share what you know matter most.

You have:

  • 5+ years of professional Android development experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and modern Android architecture.
  • Experience maintaining and modernizing production Android apps, including making improvements without disrupting existing users.
  • A solid understanding of the Android lifecycle, app performance, and stability.
  • Experience with CI/CD and mobile app release processes.
  • An interest in Kotlin Multiplatform and sharing code across Android and iOS.
  • The ability to explain technical decisions clearly and discuss trade-offs openly.
  • A collaborative mindset and an interest in helping your teammates learn and grow.
  • Communicative English skills (spoken and written).

It's great if you also have:

  • Hands-on experience with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP).
  • Experience integrating advertising SDKs, analytics, or consent management into native apps.
  • Experience migrating larger Android codebases from XML to Jetpack Compose.
  • Some experience with Swift or native iOS development.
  • Familiarity with mobile design systems.

These are bonus skills, not deal-breakers. If your background doesn't match every point but the role sounds like a good fit, we'd still love to hear from you.

What makes this role interesting?

A product people genuinely rely on

You'll work on an established Swedish digital product used by over 1.1 million people. Your decisions can directly influence how users discover their next favorite show, movie, or sporting event.

Real technical ownership

You'll have the space to influence our Android architecture and engineering practices, not just implement features from a backlog.

Modernization with meaningful challenges

Moving a mature production app toward Jetpack Compose and KMP brings interesting architectural decisions. You'll help shape that transition while keeping the experience reliable for existing users.

Room to grow beyond Android

You'll collaborate closely with our iOS developer, learn more about cross-platform architecture, and gradually expand your skills if that's where your curiosity takes you.

A team built on trust and collaboration

We value people who take initiative, share what they know, and aren't afraid to ask questions or challenge an idea constructively.

We believe good engineering happens when people have the freedom to make decisions, the support to learn, and the confidence to speak openly.

A wider engineering community

As part of Schibsted & Vend Polska, collaborating with Schibsted, you'll be connected to engineering expertise across the Nordic media technology ecosystem.

Type of work & location

This role is based in Kraków, Poland, with a hybrid working model: 2 days per week in the office.

We value the flexibility to focus independently and the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and learn from each other in person.

Interested?

If you enjoy working on real products, solving meaningful Android engineering challenges, and being part of a team where your ideas matter, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply and help us shape the next chapter of tv.nu's mobile experience.
