Do you enjoy solving technical problems, turning data into useful answers and making business applications work better for the people who use them?
We are looking for a hands-on technical generalist who combines strong SQL skills with curiosity, sound judgement, good communication skills, and a practical approach to application support.
Gard is a marine insurer. In the Applications team within Gard’s Technology organisation, you will work closely with business users, IT colleagues and external suppliers. Your initial focus will be M-Files technical support, creating and maintaining custom reports, and user support and administration of our insurance system. Over time, you can take responsibility for other applications and help shape how they develop.
Key responsibilities
Key competencies
You have practical experience writing SQL queries and can check whether results make business sense. You are comfortable investigating application issues, working with relational data and explaining technical findings clearly. You can turn a user’s question into a well-defined task and document what you have done. Clear written and spoken English is essential. You are motivated to learn how our core business processes work and how our applications support them.
Experience with M-Files and insurance or finance in general is an advantage, not a requirement. Application ownership, vendor management, release coordination, monitoring, and scripting or automation are also useful. We do not expect expertise in every area: the ability and motivation to learn unfamiliar systems matter more. This is an application-focused role, not a full-time developer or database administrator position.
Personal skills
You are curious, approachable and methodical. You enjoy a varied working day and take ownership of problems while knowing when to involve others. You balance responsive support with longer-term improvements, keep users informed and follow tasks through. Above all, you want to understand how technology supports the business and make everyday work easier for colleagues.
