Junior Malware Analyst

The Junior Malware Analyst primary role is to support and handle all malware related cases that are reported to F-Secure from our customers and partners.

The Junior Malware Analyst’s technical duties include but are not limited to file, email, website, vulnerability and threat analysis and classification. In addition, her/his duties may include creation of simple detections that are capable of catching only a limited number of variants and overseeing testing and release of regular malware database updates.
Junior analyst utilizes reverse engineering, behavioural analysis and other means to analyze and process samples.

They work together with multiple stakeholders in the company to find solutions for customer’s immediate malware issues and maintain the quality of response and support that F-Secure is known for.

They will be expected to be able to use information from many sources, internal and external to support their work.

Skills & Requirements


  • Be part of the Threat Response team within Customer Protection that works around the clock (24-hr/5-day) to provide solutions to existing and emerging threats in a timely manner.
  • Analyze and reverse engineer malware samples on different operating systems to understand its behavior on stand alone or networked systems.
  • Create heuristic and signature-based detections as well as creation of cleanup solutions.
  • Create malware analysis descriptions and other technical documentation.
  • Tests F-Secure product’s protection capability against real-life threats.


  • Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems’ internal structures and APIs.
  • Good knowledge on C/C++ and/or other high level programming languages.
  • Good knowledge on common Internet protocols (TCP/IP, SMTP, HTTP).
  • Broad understanding of threat landscape and computer security, particularly endpoint security.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English and able to interact easily with people of different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Willing to work in a 24-hr/5-day shift rotation.

  • Prior experience with reverse engineering – assembly language (x86), disassemblers and debuggers (Hiew, Ollydbg, Windbg, IDA Pro) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (LUA, Python, JavaScript) is a plus.
