Principal Consultant | IT/OT (M/F/NB)

Industrial companies generate huge amounts of data. But when production systems, IT platforms, and teams operate in silos, turning that data into better business decisions is easier said than done.

A manufacturer wants to reduce downtime, but the data needed for predictive maintenance isn’t readily available. An AI pilot looks promising, but never makes it beyond proof of concept. IT and OT teams are working toward the same business goals, yet their systems and priorities don’t quite connect.

The challenge isn’t always about introducing another technology. Often, it’s about figuring out how the existing pieces should work together.

That’s where you come in.

At Etteplan, we’ve spent over 40 years combining engineering expertise with technology to solve complex industrial challenges. Our work spans software, embedded systems, and advanced engineering, giving us a strong understanding of both industrial operations and the technologies that support them.

We’re now growing our Advisory Services team within Software and Embedded Solutions (SES) and looking for a Principal Consultant specializing in IT/OT Convergence and Data Advisory.

You’ll help industrial customers connect their business ambitions with the architecture, data capabilities, and technology decisions needed to make them happen. That means bringing IT, OT, data, and security perspectives together, and helping leadership turn complex challenges into a clear direction.

At Etteplan, you’ll work at the forefront of industrial digital transformation, helping connect IT, OT, and data in ways industrial companies can build on. You’ll join a newly established Advisory team with strong strategic backing and leading consultants in cybersecurity, data, enterprise architecture, and design & change.

Why this role is worth a closer look

You start with the business problem, not the technology. Whether a customer wants to improve uptime, reduce maintenance costs, increase quality, or meet regulatory requirements, you’ll help them work out what needs to change across their IT/OT environment to achieve it.

You’ll connect the dots others often look at separately. Production systems, enterprise IT, cloud, data, and cybersecurity all play a part. You’ll help customers see the bigger picture and make decisions that work across organizational and technical boundaries.

You’ll help turn data and AI ambitions into something achievable. When valuable production data is locked away in silos or AI initiatives struggle to move beyond a pilot, you’ll help customers identify what’s missing and build a realistic path forward.

Your advice can lead to real change. At Etteplan, advisory and engineering go hand in hand. You’ll work with architects and delivery teams to connect strategic recommendations with the work needed to put them into practice.

You’ll help build a growing advisory capability. You’ll shape our IT/OT advisory offering, share your expertise, and help strengthen capabilities across Etteplan.

The role at a glance

  • Focus: IT/OT Convergence / Technology & Data Advisory
  • Key areas: IT/OT architecture, industrial digital transformation, OT data strategy, data governance, AI readiness, cybersecurity considerations, technology roadmaps
  • Environment: Industrial OT systems, enterprise IT, cloud, and data ecosystems
  • Business context: Production availability, operational efficiency, quality, maintenance, and compliance
  • Level: Principal Consultant (8+ years of experience)
  • Collaboration: Customer executives, IT and OT leaders, architects, engineering and delivery teams, Advisory Services, and Business Units

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading early-stage customer engagements, from discovery and understanding business priorities to assessing the current IT/OT landscape and defining the way forward.
  • Helping customers translate goals such as improved availability, lower operating costs, better quality, or regulatory compliance into the IT/OT architecture, data capabilities, and services they need.
  • Advising senior stakeholders on IT/OT convergence, including how industrial systems, enterprise IT, and cloud environments should work together to support business outcomes.
  • Shaping strategies for making better use of OT data, including data availability, quality, governance, and readiness for analytics and AI.
  • Helping customers identify and prioritize data-driven use cases, such as predictive maintenance, based on business value and technical feasibility.
  • Bringing security and regulatory considerations into wider IT/OT architecture and transformation discussions, rather than treating them as separate initiatives.
  • Turning assessments and recommendations into clear technology roadmaps, investment priorities, and business cases that customer leadership can act on.
  • Working closely with architects and delivery teams to connect advisory recommendations with implementation.
  • Supporting sales and pre-sales in strategic customer discussions, bringing technical credibility and a clear understanding of industrial business challenges.
  • Helping develop Etteplan’s IT/OT advisory offering, consulting methods, and best practices, while mentoring lead engineers and architects across the organization.

What we’re looking for

  • You have at least 8 years of experience in technology consulting, advisory, or other senior client-facing roles, and you’ve led complex engagements or strategic discussions with customers, including senior executives. You’re comfortable taking ownership of the conversation, not just contributing technical expertise.
  • You have a strong understanding of IT/OT convergence and industrial system architectures, including how OT environments, enterprise IT, and cloud technologies interact.
  • You understand industrial data challenges and can advise on data availability, integration, quality, governance, and how these affect analytics and AI initiatives.
  • You know how to connect technical decisions with business outcomes, whether that’s production availability, efficiency, quality, cost, or compliance.
  • You can assess complex IT/OT environments, identify gaps and dependencies, and turn your findings into practical recommendations, roadmaps, and investment priorities.
  • You understand the realities of industrial environments, including reliability, safety, legacy systems, and long technology lifecycles.
  • You can bring cybersecurity and regulatory considerations into wider architecture discussions, while keeping the customer’s overall business objectives in view.
  • You’ve worked in industrial, energy, critical infrastructure, or another complex engineering-driven domain.
  • You can move naturally between conversations with executives, IT and OT leaders, architects, and engineering teams. You ask the right questions, communicate clearly, and know when to challenge assumptions.
  • You’re comfortable working independently in ambiguous, international, and multidisciplinary environments.

Nice to have

  • Experience advising on Industry 4.0 or industrial digital transformation initiatives.
  • Involvement in industrial data or AI initiatives, particularly where data availability or IT/OT integration affected the ability to scale.
  • Experience with cybersecurity-driven IT/OT modernization or regulatory initiatives involving industrial environments.

If you enjoy connecting business challenges with technology, data, and the people who make industrial systems work, we’d love to hear from you.
