ABOUT THE COMPANY

NeurAtom develops ML-accelerated software for reactor-physics simulation. Our neural-network surrogate models reproduce the results of full Monte Carlo neutron-transport calculations — the reference method for reactor core design — at a fraction of the computational cost, validated against Monte Carlo ground truth. This makes design-space exploration and fuel-loading optimisation tractable as interactive problems rather than overnight HPC jobs.

The technology works and is validated. What the company does not yet have is a commercial function. This role builds it. The context is favourable: nuclear construction is expanding across Europe, with a large number of SMR and Gen-IV designs entering the design phase, each requiring extensive neutronics analysis. NeurAtom is a deep-tech spin-out from KTH, currently in the KTH Innovation Launch Programme, looking for a commercial founding team member to own business development, grant funding, and pricing.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

NeurAtom is at an early stage. Current status, stated plainly:

  • Two integrated prototypes.
  • Validation against a trusted reference. Surrogates validated against Serpent 2 Monte Carlo (JEFF-3.1.1) on the SUNRISE-LFR lead-cooled fast-reactor geometry, using approximately 120,000 simulations on the Dardel national supercomputer.
  • Known limits. All validation to date is on a single reactor geometry in an academic setting. The methodology has not yet been applied to industrial proprietary data — closing that gap is the substance of this role.
  • Institutional standing. Accepted into the KTH Innovation Launch Programme (Batch 23), with access to premises, coaching, network, and proof-of-concept funding.

THE ROLE

The company has validated technology and early market signal but no commercial function. This role builds it from zero and grows into ownership of the commercial side of the company. The technical founders lead customer relationships directly — in the nuclear sector, credibility is technical and personal — so the priority here is the work behind those relationships: funding, process, positioning, and materials.

Principal objectives for the first period, framed as outcomes rather than a task list:

  • Non-dilutive funding. Own the grant pipeline: draft and submit applications for KTH Innovation proof-of-concept funding and a Vinnova verification grant, and prepare the path to an EIC Accelerator application. This is the nearest-term funding route and the highest-priority objective.
  • Converting interest into commitment. Run the customer-discovery process across Swedish nuclear organisations — utilities, fuel service providers, reactor developers — and work toward a first formal letter of intent for a pilot. You own the process, research, and follow-through; the founders lead the meetings.
  • Commercial foundation. A business model, first pricing structure, and financial projections informed by those conversations; market sizing (TAM/SAM/SOM) with a Sweden-first focus; positioning refined against the incumbents.
  • Fundability. Pitch and grant materials suitable for public funders and early investor conversations.

You would own this function. There is no commercial team above you and no established process to inherit.

Skills & Requirements

The role calls for demonstrated commercial ability and independent drive more than years of experience. A strong recent graduate is in scope; what matters is evidence of having made things happen commercially, not stated interest in the mission.

Required:

  • Demonstrated commercial results — for example: having sold something, run a venture, secured a funded grant, or held a commercial role with genuine ownership. Evidence over enthusiasm.
  • Strong structured writing in English — grant applications and pitch materials are a writing task before a selling task.
  • Analytical competence with market sizing, cost structures, and basic financial modelling.
  • Technical literacy sufficient to discuss ML surrogates and reactor design without translation — an engineering, physics, or energy background is the most direct route.
  • Ability to work independently at pre-revenue stage, with no established process and time-constrained founders.

Meriting:

  • Swedish, given the initial market focus.
  • Exposure to the Nordic energy sector, the KTH Innovation ecosystem, Vinnova, or EU funding programmes.
  • Genuine interest in nuclear — this is a long undertaking in a politically contested sector.

Education: MSc-level education (engineering, physics, energy, or business with a technical orientation) is expected but not rigid; a demonstrated track record outweighs a specific degree.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Equity as a founding team member, with reverse vesting on incorporation.
  • Ownership of the entire commercial function, with the corresponding autonomy — scope well beyond an equivalent junior or graduate role.
  • A market at an early but genuine inflection point, with validated interest already in place rather than a cold start.
  • KTH Innovation Launch Programme: premises at KTH campus, business coaching, network, and access to proof-of-concept funding.

The role is not currently salaried. NeurAtom is pre-incorporation and pre-funding; compensation at this stage is equity. We state this at the outset rather than later.

Great Place to Work

  • Business Development Coach from KTH

  • Centrally located office space (KTH Campus)
