Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and analytically minded Engineer to join our Onshore Renewables and Power team.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute technical expertise in a dynamic and collaborative work environment. In this role, you will provide expert technical advice on power generation and electrical systems, supporting both risk assessment activities and the handling of complex claims. Working closely with underwriters, claims handlers, and our members and clients, you will help evaluate technical risks, investigate incidents, and deliver insights that support informed underwriting and claims decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a technical adviser to claims handlers and provide risk engineering support to underwriters managing Gard’s Onshore Renewables and Power portfolio.
• Maintain the quality and consistency of technical methodology and documentation used in underwriting and claims, ensuring clarity, traceability, and defensibility of technical conclusions.
• Take responsibility for technical assessments used in loss adjustment and coverage discussions, including the consequences these assessments may have for claim settlements, negotiations, and customer outcomes.
• Act as a trusted technical adviser to internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on technical facts, assumptions, and limitations.
• Build and maintain a strong technical knowledge network across the business and the wider renewables ecosystem, proactively connecting with underwriting, claims, risk engineering, and external specialists.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing with colleagues and to the development of insurance products and services.
• Represent Gard in customer and broker meetings and in various industry fora.

Competence/experience requirements

• Deep understanding of power generation and renewable energy technologies, including wind, solar, BESS, and related systems, covering major components, operating principles, degradation patterns, failure mechanisms, and applicable standards throughout the asset lifecycle.
• Strong knowledge of non-life insurance principles and the interaction between engineering risk and insurance solutions, including insurability assessments, risk appetite, policy structures, coverage triggers, exclusions, deductibles, and underwriting considerations for renewable energy assets.
• Expertise in investigating losses involving power generation and renewable energy assets, including damage assessment, root cause analysis, repair and remediation strategies, and the effective management of technical evidence in collaboration with external experts and stakeholders.
• Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences, presenting assumptions, uncertainties, rationale, and supporting documentation in a structured and transparent manner.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively within a lean, highly specialized, and international team environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
