Financial Controller

Are you a finance professional who has owned a full trial balance and month-end close at scale, knows what breaks when the numbers don't add up, and fixes it before it reaches the Finance Director? Do you want your work to have a direct impact on the wellbeing of millions of people across Europe?

If yes - read on.

Epassi is one of Europe's fastest-growing companies (Financial Times, multiple years running). We're a leading provider of employee benefit solutions, operating across Finland, Germany, Italy, UK, France, the Nordics and beyond. We started in Helsinki in 2007, launched Europe's first mobile employee benefit payment in 2008, and haven't stopped building since.

We are currently hiring a Financial Controller based in Haywards Heath.

Your mission at Epassi

As BU UK scales, we need dedicated financial control ownership across our UK legal entities. This role brings rigour to our accounting, accelerates our NetSuite migration, and — from mid-2027 — insources the management of the group's wallet holding company from our external accountants. You'll own the financial control function for BU UK, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of accounting records across the business unit's legal entities, and be a key player in the ongoing NetSuite migration.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Financial Control (primary focus) — own the trial balances for all BU UK legal entities, ensure the general ledger is audit-ready, and resolve reconciling items promptly
  • Reporting — deliver the monthly management reporting pack, owning the narrative behind the numbers, not just the figures
  • FP&A Support — support financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting cycles
  • Systems & Data — drive the NetSuite migration and manage synchronisation with LucaNet
  • Group Wallet Entities — from mid-2027, take ownership of the trial balances for the group's wallet holding company

You'll be successful in this role if you:

  • Trial balances for all BU UK entities are accurate, reconciled, and signed off on time each month-close, with no material errors escalated
  • The management reporting pack (P&L, variance analysis and commentary, ARR reporting, SaaS metrics) is delivered to deadline in a format the Finance Director finds genuinely useful
  • The NetSuite migration is supported end-to-end, with clean data, a mapped chart of accounts, and a smooth handover to BAU reporting
  • LucaNet synchronisation runs reliably, with no reconciling differences sitting unresolved between entity and group consolidation
  • You bring process improvement ideas to the table proactively, not just when something breaks

What you'll be doing (daily):

  • Posting and reviewing journals, chasing down reconciling items, and closing off trial balances at month-end
  • Pulling together the numbers and commentary for the management reporting pack
  • Updating cash flow forecasts and feeding into budgeting/reforecasting in Team Ohana and Abacum
  • Mapping accounts and cleaning data for the NetSuite migration, checking LucaNet sync for discrepancies
  • From mid-2027: booking monthly entries for the group's wallet holding company

What you should bring:

  • ACA or ACCA qualified, with post-qualification experience in industry (not purely practice)
  • Proven experience owning a full trial balance and month-end close process independently
  • Comfort with technical accounting areas including consolidations, intercompany transactions, and financial instruments
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence handling large data sets across multiple systems
  • Experience with — or appetite to work in — SaaS or subscription businesses, with familiarity with ARR and SaaS metrics reporting
  • A genuine drive to improve processes — you spot inefficiency and do something about it rather than working around it
  • Comfort working in a scaling business where not everything is built yet, and some things need building from scratch

Your language profile:

  • English

Your track record:

  • ACA or ACCA qualified
  • Post-qualification experience in industry (not purely practice)
  • Proven, independent ownership of a full trial balance and month-end close process
  • Experience with NetSuite, LucaNet, Excel, Abacum, and Team Ohana is advantageous

Your competency profile:

  • Precise and thorough by nature — you treat accuracy in the ledger as non-negotiable, not a best effort
  • Proactively improves rather than maintains — you look at a process and ask how it could be better, then follow through
  • Comfortable with ambiguity — building structure where none exists yet, in a business that's still scaling
  • A natural finance business partner — you seek out other departments and stakeholders, turning analysis into conversations that drive growth
  • Collaborative and low-ego — you work well across finance and with non-finance stakeholders, and share knowledge rather than guard it
  • Technically confident but practically minded — you can handle complex accounting without losing sight of what the business actually needs from the numbers
