Job Description

Looking for new challenges within structural analysis that go beyond routine simulations? Join Wärtsilä to solve complex engineering problems and shape how they are analyzed.

What will you be doing?

As an Expert in Structural Analysis, you will solve demanding structural strength and durability challenges using FEM and numerical analysis. You will perform, evaluate, and report simulations related to dynamics, fatigue, stress, and structural strength, supporting product and technology development across cylinder heads and valve mechanisms, fuel systems, and gas systems.

Your assignments will range from focused structural calculations to complex investigations where you identify the root causes of technical challenges and determine how to move forward. You will work closely with designers, component experts, and other technical specialists, using simulation and measurement data to support engineering decisions and solve real product development challenges.

Beyond individual analysis assignments, you will contribute to developing simulation methods, processes, and new ways of working. You will share your findings and expertise within the Structural Analysis team, helping others apply new methods and learnings in their work. Depending on your expertise and interests, you may also contribute to areas such as noise simulation, machine learning, and digitalization.

What makes you a great fit?

You already have several years of professional experience in FEM and structural analysis, combined with a strong understanding of mechanics and numerical analysis. You are comfortable taking ownership of demanding simulation assignments, evaluating results critically, and communicating your findings and recommendations to designers and other technical specialists.

You enjoy getting to the root of complex technical problems and finding practical ways forward. You work independently when needed but value collaboration, actively seek input from others, and are equally willing to share your own expertise and learnings with the team.

We expect you to have:

  • Professional experience in structural analysis and practical FEM simulations, preferably involving engine components or other mechanically demanding products
  • An MSc or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Technical Mechanics, or a related engineering field
  • Experience with Abaqus, HyperMesh, SimLab, OptiStruct, or similar simulation software
  • Good communication skills in English
  • A proactive and solution-oriented approach, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams

We consider as an asset:

  • Experience or interest in machine learning, digitalization, or data analytics
  • Experience or interest in numerical noise analysis or noise simulation development
  • Experience with CFD or multiphysics simulations
  • Experience developing simulation methods, processes, or analysis tools
  • Finnish or Swedish language skills

Why join Wärtsilä?

  • Solve varied structural analysis challenges, from focused simulations to complex investigations requiring deeper technical analysis.
  • Shape simulation methods and ways of working, giving you opportunities to influence how structural analysis is developed and applied.
  • Apply your expertise to engineering decisions that directly support the development of Wärtsilä’s marine technologies.
  • Collaborate across an international R&D environment where experienced specialists actively share methods, findings, and technical knowledge.

Practicalities:

This is a permanent, full-time position, and you will be employed directly by Wärtsilä. The position can be based either in Vaasa, Finland, or Trieste, Italy, and follows Wärtsilä’s hybrid working model. The starting date will be agreed upon with the selected candidate.

Interested?

Please submit your CV in PDF format in English or Finnish by September 23rd at the latest via aTalent’s application system. A motivation letter is optional, but with a role-specific motivation letter you can provide more information about your relevant skills and why this would be an interesting opportunity for you.

Please note that we are actively reviewing applications throughout the application period and processing them in the order they are received. Remember to use the application system, as we do not accept applications by email.
