Job Description
Sampo Group is looking for an Analyst to join its Group Strategy team in Helsinki. The role offers a unique opportunity to work on a broad range of strategic questions while gaining an in-depth understanding of the P&C insurance business as part of the leading P&C insurance group in Northern Europe.
Responsibilities
Working closely with two senior team members, you will seek solutions for strategic questions and support strategic projects across Sampo Group and its businesses, including If and Hastings. You will work on topics discussed at the highest levels of the Sampo Group, including strategic priorities, capital allocation, M&A and investor communications.
A central part of the role is turning complex analyses and broad information sets, often in collaboration with multiple expert teams across the Group, into clear recommendations and concise presentations for senior management, the Board and investors.
Your work will include market and competitor research, financial and valuation analysis, and other economic & business case analyses supporting strategic projects. Assignments can range from focused analyses for specific topics Group management needs support with to longer-term strategic initiatives. The team also drives and coordinates potential M&A projects when relevant.
A key enabling part of your role in presenting clear recommendations is gathering and analyzing vast amounts of information, utilising your judgement on what is relevant and what is not, and turning complex questions into clear conclusions, usually in the form of a presentation. You will work closely with stakeholders across Sampo, proactively seeking the input you need and confidently communicating your findings. In selected projects, you may also work with external advisors.
What makes you a great fit?
You are intellectually curious, analytical and comfortable tackling open-ended strategic questions. You enjoy combining quantitative analysis with clear communication and are motivated by seeing your work influence real decisions. Whether assessing a market opportunity, evaluating an acquisition, preparing material for senior management or helping shape investor communications, you can distil complex information into clear conclusions and recommendations.
You have some previous experience in in-house business development, strategy, management consulting, investment banking or similar analytical work, and are ready to build on this foundation in an in-house strategy role.
You are motivated to build deep industry expertise in P&C insurance. The role allows you to explore the industry from multiple perspectives, including strategy, finance, markets and business development. Previous experience in P&C insurance or a related/regulated industry is an advantage, but not required.
We expect you to have:
- Experience in creating clear, compelling presentation materials that help facilitate a discussion on the findings with senior management and Board-level audiences
- A relevant Master’s degree, for example in finance, industrial engineering and management, strategy or economics
- Around 1–2 years of relevant experience from strategy, consulting, investment banking, or other analytical business roles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure complex questions and draw clear conclusions from data and information, while structuring the output of your analysis to the relevant level given the targeted audience
- Strong Excel skills as well as the ability to utilize AI tools effectively and responsibly in analytical work
- Strong written and spoken English skills, combined with good communication and collaboration skills
We consider as an asset:
- Comfortability with open-ended questions where the problem definition itself may initially be unclear
- Experience in financial modelling, valuation or transaction-related analysis
- Previous exposure to P&C insurance, financial services or another regulated or capital-intensive industry
- Finnish language skills
