Job Description
Want to be part of transforming road freight? Einride is showing the world a new way to move, based on the latest digital, autonomous and electric technologies. We build the technology that hauls freight efficiently, and we put it to work for the world's leading manufacturers, retailers, logistics providers and defense organizations, all working toward a future where moving goods cost less for our customers, and less for the planet.
Founded in 2016, Einride became the first company in the world to deploy a cab-less autonomous electric vehicle on a public road (Sweden, 2019). In 2022, we were the first to successfully operate such a vehicle on a U.S. public road. In June 2026, Einride became a publicly listed company on Nasdaq, a milestone that reflects a decade of turning what once looked like science fiction into everyday reality. Today, our technology moves freight across North America, Europe, and the Middle East for some of the world's biggest shippers.
Einride Logistics Inc. is a transportation company operating as a federally regulated motor carrier across multiple states, running a mixed fleet of conventional diesel and battery-electric commercial vehicles. We are hiring our first dedicated Environmental Health & Safety leader to own the safety and regulatory compliance program end to end.
This is a builder's role, not a caretaker's. You will own DOT/FMCSA compliance, driver and fleet safety, and environmental compliance for the entire operation — writing the policies, standing up the systems, training the people, and answering for the numbers. You will be the company's subject-matter authority in front of regulators, auditors, insurers, and customers, and a visible safety partner to drivers and terminal teams in the field.
You will:
DOT & FMCSA Regulatory Compliance
- Own the DOT compliance program across all operating authorities and states, ensuring adherence to 49 CFR Parts 380–399 and maintaining audit-ready records at all times.
- Manage driver qualification vendor and supplier end to end — MVRs, medical certificates, road tests, employment verifications, and annual reviews of driving records — including the annual MVR review required under Part 391.
- Administer Hours of Service compliance, including ELD program management, log auditing, exception review, and coaching on false-log and form-and-manner violations.
- Run the DOT drug and alcohol testing program supplier / vendor under 49 CFR Part 40 and Part 382: pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and return-to-duty testing; serve as the company's Designated Employer Representative (DER).
- Manage FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse obligations, including full pre-employment queries, annual limited queries for every driver, and timely reporting of violations and return-to-duty information.
- Monitor and improve CSA/SMS performance across all compliance categories — Unsafe Driving, Crash Indicator, Hours of Service, Vehicle Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance (Driver-Observed), Driver Fitness, and HM — using roadside inspection data to target intervention before FMCSA does.
- Oversee vehicle compliance records, including annual inspections, DVIRs, preventive maintenance documentation, and out-of-service violation follow-up in partnership with Fleet Maintenance.
Fleet Safety & Driver Training
- Design and run the driver safety program, from new-hire onboarding and entry-level driver training (ELDT) through ongoing professional development.
- Own the telematics and camera program — set event thresholds, review footage, and build a coaching workflow that changes behavior rather than simply generating reports.
- Chair the accident review committee, determining preventability, identifying root causes, and driving corrective action to closure.
- Lead incident investigation and response for collisions, injuries, and near misses, including post-accident testing decisions, scene documentation, and DOT-recordable determination.
- Develop targeted countermeasures for the company's highest-frequency and highest-severity loss types, and measure whether they actually work.
- Partner with Recruiting and Operations on driver hiring standards, ride-alongs, probationary reviews, and progressive discipline where safety performance falls short.
- Manage workers' compensation and liability claims in coordination with insurers and legal, including return-to-work coordination and reserve management.
Program Leadership & Safety Culture
- Write and maintain the safety management system — policies, SOPs, the driver handbook, and the corrective action process — and keep them current as regulations and operations change.
- Build safety reporting and dashboards that give leadership a clear view of leading and lagging indicators, not just an accident count after the fact.
- Deliver training in the field, not just from a desk — terminal walkthroughs, toolbox talks, driver meetings, and hands-on coaching.
- Establish a near-miss and hazard reporting channel that drivers and technicians actually trust and use.
- Advise executive leadership on safety risk, including the risk implications of new lanes, customers, sites, and equipment before commitments are made.
- Scale the function — define the structure, tools, and headcount the EH&S program will need as the network grows, and build the team.
We expect you to:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental science, transportation, logistics, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
- 7+ years of progressive EH&S or safety and compliance experience, with at least 3 years in trucking, fleet, or another DOT-regulated transportation environment.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (49 CFR Parts 40, 382, 383, 387, 390–399) applied in a live operation, not solely in theory.
- Direct experience managing CSA/SMS performance and the DataQs process.
- Hands-on experience with ELD and telematics platforms and driver coaching programs (e.g., Samsara, Motive, Lytx, Netradyne, or Geotab).
- Experience leading incident investigations and root cause analysis through to corrective action.
- Working knowledge of OSHA general industry standards (29 CFR 1910) and recordkeeping requirements.
- Ability to travel to operating sites, including occasional short-notice travel following a significant incident.
- Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred experience with battery-electric commercial vehicles, high-voltage systems, or EV charging infrastructure.
- Multi-state environmental compliance experience, including hazardous waste generator obligations.
- Experience supporting autonomous, automated, or other emerging vehicle technology programs.
- Class A CDL, or substantial experience working directly with CDL drivers.
- Experience building an EH&S function from the ground up in a growing organization.
- Working knowledge of hazmat requirements under 49 CFR Parts 171–180 (if the operation adds hazmat freight).
This is a full-time position based in the US, ideally in; Dallas, Houston, New Jersey, or Los Angeles. We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible since selection and interviews are held continually.
Please note that as part of our standard recruitment process, we conduct a background control on the final candidate for this role. This may include verification of education, employment history, any relevant professional certifications or other information that may be of our interest.
