Computer Vision & Autonomy Engineer

Computer Vision & Autonomy Engineer

Type: On-site Consulting / Interim Professional
Location: Luxembourg City
Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role
As a Computer Vision & Autonomy Engineer, you will take full ownership of visual detection and navigation systems for advanced space and defense programs (including ESA and EDA). You will help build autonomous solutions for Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPOD), satellite servicing, debris removal, and Space Situational Awareness (SSA).

In this hands-on role, you will bridge the gap between algorithm development, system architecture, and hardware integration. You will translate mission requirements into robust software and hardware solutions and guide the system from concept to end-to-end laboratory validation.

Your Responsibilities

  • Algorithm Development & Perception: Design and implement algorithms for relative navigation, pose estimation, object detection, and tracking (using a combination of classical computer vision, multi-view geometry, neural networks, and sensor fusion/Kalman filtering).
  • System Architecture & Requirements: Analyze mission requirements, define subsystem interfaces, and draft system architecture (sensors, algorithms, compute platforms).
  • Hardware & Software Integration: Select cameras, lenses, sensors, and embedded compute platforms. Integrate CV software with physical hardware and robotic testbeds.
  • Simulation & Data Pipelines: Build visual simulations and synthetic data pipelines for algorithm training and testing.
  • Testing & Validation: Set up laboratory testbed environments and perform Model-in-the-Loop (MIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), and Processor-in-the-Loop (PIL) testing.
  • Stakeholder Management: Present technical decisions, architecture, and test results to international partners (such as ESA and EDA).

Your Profile

  • Education & Experience: Master’s or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Software & Tooling: Strong programming proficiency in C++ and Python, combined with experience in OpenCV and PyTorch.
  • Computer Vision & Estimation: Hands-on experience with pose estimation, sensor calibration, object tracking, and state estimation (Kalman filters / non-linear estimation).
  • Hardware & Testing: Experience selecting and integrating sensors and compute hardware, as well as establishing lab testing and simulation environments.
  • Languages & Communication: Fluent in English. High degree of autonomy and strong communication skills for working with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Location: You are based in Belgium or Luxemburg. Space sector experience is a plus, but not required. Strong candidates from robotics, autonomous vehicles, defense, or industrial vision are strongly encouraged to apply.
Please bear in mind that our company is bound by ITAR regulations, restricting candidates from certain countries or holders of double nationalities.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with ROS/ROS 2 and simulation tools (such as Gazebo, Isaac Sim, Omniverse, Unreal Engine).
  • Knowledge of SLAM, visual odometry, or embedded AI deployment (TensorRT, CUDA, ONNX).
  • Familiarity with ESA/EDA/ECSS standards and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
