Senior UI Programmer

Remedy Entertainment, the creator of Control®, Max Payne®, Alan Wake®, and one of the leading independent game studios in the world, is looking for a Senior UI Programmer to create high-quality gaming experiences for the next generation of games.

Do you want to bring game User Interfaces to life through code? Are you as interested in what happens underneath the UI as in the UI itself? Things like the data flowing from the engine, the rendering path, and the frame and memory budgets?

In this role you would work alongside fellow UI Programmers, UI/UX Designers, Gameplay Programmers and Northlight Engine Programmers to build HUD widgets, Menus, and assorted UI components to serve the game vision, while working on the technical seam between the engine and the frontend.

You would have an impactful role in the game UI, as well as a chance to shape the UI craft across all Remedy projects by improving the technology it stands on, both with feedback and direct contributions.
We enthusiastically welcome diverse viewpoints and backgrounds. At Remedy, we value and are committed to ensuring an inclusive and safe work environment for all our team members.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

    • Working as part of a game team's UI programmers, building HUD widgets, menus and other UI components in TypeScript and C++, and shipping them in the game.
    • Take a big part in developing the data layer between the engine and the UI, the API through which gameplay systems expose their state to the frontend and which every UI Programmer at Remedy builds on, including designing its next iteration.
    • Closely work with core game features by maintaining and developing UI framework features on top of Coherent (menu navigation, data binding, binding textures to meshes, live-editing, audio system integration, input system integration)
    • Working closely with the Northlight engine team on UI performance and rendering features: profiling and optimizing the UI across CPU, GPU and memory on all our platforms, and contributing to the UI rendering backend. We currently use Coherent Gameface, integrated into our rendering backend and core gameplay systems.
    • Supporting and helping game teams to implement game-specific features, such as maps, HUDs, interaction markers, and features like the investigation board in Alan Wake 2.
    • Participating in code reviews, sharing technical solutions with the UI craft, and documenting your work for the teams that depend on it.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

  • You have shipped software where frame time and memory were hard constraints, whether in games, embedded web, browser engines, or real-time applications.
  • You have strong experience with C++, including multithreaded code, and fluency in the modern web stack (TypeScript, JSX, CSS preprocessing).
  • You have deep knowledge of the DOM API, the browser event loop, and the layout and draw costs of different HTML/CSS operations.
  • You bring a helpful attitude and genuine interest for making performant and beautiful UI, and comfort building APIs that other programmers rely on.
  • You thrive working in a team environment, sharing ideas and learning from others. You are used to collaborating with colleagues across different departments and you are able to communicate and present your ideas in a clear and coherent way. As a team member, you are dedicated to contributing towards a friendly and inclusive work environment.
  • You can also work independently, being organized and able to document your work.

Additional Skills We Would Like to See:

  • Experience on PC/console titles, with Coherent Gameface, with rendering APIs such as DirectX, or with building a game↔UI data-binding layer is considered a plus.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • At Remedy, you get to work on awesome, memorable gaming experiences for our players in a studio where your input is valued, and your creative freedom is encouraged.
  • We offer a collaborative environment that values both individual and teamwork, ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard and workloads stay manageable. We believe in and support work-life balance — happy people work better.
  • We offer an extensive set of employee benefits and an annual bonus system as well as opportunities for you to develop your skills further. On top of this, in Finland you get up to 5 weeks of paid vacation, in addition to public holidays and other special occasions.
  • We have two offices, one in Finland, in the Helsinki metropolitan area, and one in Stockholm, Sweden. Both locations are well known for their exceptional quality of life, free education and pristine nature at your doorstep. This role is for our office in Espoo, Finland.
  • If you are not already in Finland, we offer relocation support to help you with the move. Our relocation package also includes a relocation allowance, determined based on location and individual circumstances, so you can focus on your work while we support your transition.
  • Our studio is embracing a hybrid work model that gives you the flexibility to work from home and have valuable face-to-face time with your colleagues.

To apply, please fill in the application form with your CV (in English), and other information relevant to the position. This position will be filled as soon as suitable applicants are found.
