Geotechnical Geologist to Gruvteknik

Do you want to use your geological and geotechnical expertise to solve meaningful challenges in one of the world's most advanced underground mining environments? At LKAB, you will contribute to sustainable mining together with experienced colleagues in a supportive, international team where collaboration, learning and long-term development are central.

The sustainable transformation begins with us

We are facing our greatest challenge yet – ensuring that Sweden and Europe have what it takes to transform. So that we can live the lives we want, both today and tomorrow. In the same way that we strive to improve the future, we are committed to developing everyone who joins us on this journey, both personally and professionally.

Would you like to be part of laying the foundation for the way we live – and for the world around us?

Your role

As a Geotechnical Geologist, you will help build and develop the geotechnical understanding that supports safe, sustainable and future-oriented underground mining. You will work with data collection, geological and geotechnical modelling, technical studies and project development, always in close cooperation with colleagues from different specialist areas. The role gives you the opportunity to contribute with your expertise while continuing to learn from others across geology, rock mechanics, seismology, numerical modelling and project management.

In the role, you will for example:

  • Coordinate geotechnical data acquisition, modelling and model application
  • Plan and budget drilling programs in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
  • Create, maintain and improve geotechnical models
  • Contribute to technical studies and reporting
  • Participate in infrastructure and mining development projects
  • Collaborate with consultants and internal stakeholders on critical mining studies

What you bring

We are looking for someone who enjoys analysing complex information and translating it into useful insights. You work in a structured way, take initiative when needed and value working together with others. You communicate clearly, ask questions when something needs to be understood more deeply and are motivated by contributing to solutions that make a difference for both operations and people.

To be eligible for the role, you need to have:

  • A Master of Science degree in Mining Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geology or another related field.
  • Experience from exploration geology or engineering geology.
  • Experience from underground mining environments.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken; proficiency in Swedish is highly desirable.
  • A valid driving license equivalent to Swedish category B.

It is also an advantage if you have:

  • Experience with geotechnical logging and modelling, preferably using Leapfrog.
  • Experience with geotechnical databases, such as AcQuire, Imago or Imdex.
  • Knowledge of rock mass characterization systems.
  • Experience with technical report writing and working with large geotechnical datasets.

We encourage applications from candidates whose experience may not align with every listed requirement but who are enthusiastic about the opportunity, passionate about the industry and confident in their ability to succeed in the role.

What we offer

In addition to the general benefits we offer — which you can find a bit further down — we can also offer the following to those who do not currently live in Sweden:

  • Relocation support for you and your family.
  • Excellent conditions for settling in. We guide you through the official procedures necessary to settle in the country if you come from outside Sweden. We also provide temporary accommodation for a reasonable period and help you find a permanent place to live according to your personal needs.
  • LKAB helps you learn Swedish, a tool for a better understanding of Swedish culture.
  • The Swedish vacation law entitles all employees to five weeks of vacation per year, and four consecutive weeks during June, July, or August. Your contract may include extra vacation days.

Additional information

We strive for a fair and objective recruitment process. Therefore, we usually do not request cover letters. Instead, we ask you to answer questions related to the specific position you are applying for. Your responses help us understand your skills and experience, so please take the time to answer as clearly and thoroughly as possible.
