Your team
The Agentic AI & Automation Team is part of Handelsbanken’s AI & Automation department, which leads the bank’s AI transformation. Our team is focused on developing next-generation solutions that combine AI agents, automation and advanced analytics to transform how the bank operates and serves customers.
We work across the organization to develop high-impact solutions in areas such as customer experience, operations and decision-making. You will be joining a team with strong momentum, high ambitions and the opportunity to shape a new capability area from the ground up.
Your role
As an AI Engineer, you will be at the forefront of combining automation and AI to build intelligent, autonomous solutions that solve real business problems. You will work end-to-end — from understanding business needs to designing, building, deploying and improving solutions in production.
Your work will include:
- Building AI and automation solutions with focus on Agentic AI and Generative AI
- Driving end-to-end solution development together with a Product Manager:
- Understanding business problems and requirements
- Designing and developing solutions
- Testing and validating outcomes
- Deploying and productionizing solutions
- Monitoring, maintaining and continuously improving solutions
- Collaborating closely with business stakeholders, engineers and other AI specialists
- Mentoring junior engineers or leading technical initiatives
This is a highly hands-on, impact-driven role where you will take ownership and help define how Agentic AI and automation are applied across the bank.

Skills & Requirements
Your profile
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced engineer with strong technical capabilities, curiosity and a drive to build scalable, production-grade solutions that create measurable business value. You thrive in an evolving, fast-moving environment where you take full ownership of complex problems — from idea to production — and help shape both technical direction and ways of working. You are a strong individual contributor who also mentors others and collaborates closely with both technical and business stakeholders. Since we collaborate across the organisation, strong communication skills in Swedish are important.
You combine deep technical expertise with a strong understanding of how to translate business needs into robust, scalable solutions.
Requirements
- Master’s degree, PhD or equivalent in a technical or quantitative field
- Proven track record of building and deploying production-ready AI, automation or software solutions
- Advanced programming skills (preferably Python) and strong software engineering practices
- Strong understanding of applied statistics, mathematics and/or machine learning
- Ability to design scalable architectures and make sound technical decisions
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to independently drive initiatives from idea to production
- Strong business understanding and ability to identify high-impact opportunities
- A proactive mindset and drive to continuously improve both solutions and ways of working
Experience in one or more of the following is highly valued
- Hands-on experience with Generative AI, Predictive AI and/or Agentic AI in production
- Automation development at scale (e.g. UiPath or similar tools)
- Designing and implementing end-to-end AI/automation solutions
- Working across the full lifecycle from ideation to deployment and maintenance
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading technical initiatives
