Job Description

Arctial is looking for a Business Development Analyst to join its Commercial team in Helsinki, and support the development of offtakes, partnerships, and upstream/downstream commercial agreements across the smelter and rolling mill project.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will combine deep data analysis and commercial modelling with the production of high-quality materials for internal and external stakeholders. You will also play a key role in driving the adoption of AI tools and agentic workflows to increase the speed, quality, and impact of the Commercial team's work.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Build and maintain commercial models supporting decision-making on sales and sourcing agreements, logistics structures, partnership economics, and pricing mechanisms (LME, regional premiums, low-carbon premiums)
  • Distill insights from market signals across multiple sources; commodity pricing, supply/demand drivers, competitor moves, macroeconomic and policy trends (CBAM, ETS, trade measures), into clear, decision-ready outputs.
  • Support negotiation and structuring of upstream (alumina, anodes, power) and downstream (metal offtake, rolling mill customer) agreements, including scenario modelling and term-sheet analysis
  • Produce high-quality materials for internal and external audiences; board of directors, shareholders, customers, suppliers, financiers, and government counterparts
  • ESG, carbon footprint, and decarbonisation: track market developments and help shape Arctial's own decarbonisation roadmap and progress on initiatives
  • Commercial systems and tooling: act as the Commercial team's interface with IT vendors - scoping needs, evaluating options, and tracking implementation of systems such as CRM and S&OP
  • Spearhead the use of AI agents and automation across Commercial workflows and between functions: market monitoring, document review, model construction, counterparty research, and reporting. Drive continuous improvement in how the team operates
  • Support broader Commercial team priorities as the project moves from Feasibility Study through FEED and towards Final Investment Decision in 2027

What makes you a great fit?

With a relevant academic background and strong analytical foundation, you combine a structured, consultant-like approach with a hands-on mindset. You are energized by ambiguity, take ownership naturally, and want to help shape new capabilities, commercial partnerships, and ways of working while leaving a lasting mark on Arctial's growth journey.

You are expected to have:

  • 1–4 years of experience in business development, strategy, investment banking, or data/commercial analytics — ideally in industrials, commodities, energy, or a high-growth start-up environment
  • Commercial and financial fluency; comfortable building models from scratch and engaging credibly with both technical and corporate counterparts
  • Advanced Excel; familiarity with Python, SQL, or BI tools is a plus
  • Demonstrated curiosity and fluency with AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, agentic workflows)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English; able to distill complex content for executive and investor audiences. Finnish and Swedish are a plus but not required
  • Comfortable with ambiguity: this is a new role and the right candidate will shape its priorities and ways of working

Why join Arctial?

  • Work closely with Arctial’s commercial leadership, including the Corporate and Business Development Director and CCO, and contribute to key strategic decisions from day one
  • Join one of Europe’s most ambitious industrial and decarbonization projects and help shape the future of low-carbon aluminium production
  • Grow alongside a highly international team that combines deep industrial expertise, project development experience, and entrepreneurial drive
  • Take ownership in a role where your analyses, ideas, and initiatives can directly influence commercial strategy, partnerships, and ways of working
  • Curious about the broader vision behind the project? We encourage you to read this feature by HS Visio to learn more about Arctial (in Finnish): https://www.hs.fi/visio/art-2000012033668.html.

Practicalities:

This is a full-time and permanent position in which you will be employed directly by Arctial. The role is based in Helsinki (Pasila), and employees are expected to regularly work from the office. The role also includes occasional travel to the project site in Kokkola–Kruunupyy and other locations. The starting date is agreed separately with the selected candidate.

The compensation package consists of a fixed base salary and a performance-based bonus. Compensation will be negotiated individually based on your experience
