Job Description
Want to build the integration platform that becomes a key growth engine for a fast-growing SaaS company? Operating is looking for a Senior Integration Engineer to take ownership of one of the most business-critical areas of our product: integrations.
The role
Operating helps consultancies run their business, from staffing and time tracking to billing and month-end close. As our customer base grows, integrations have become a key factor in winning new business. Every new customer brings new systems, new requirements, and new opportunities to expand our platform.
In this role, you'll take ownership of our integration domain and help shape how Operating connects with the broader SaaS ecosystem. We already have several integrations in production and the foundations of an integration framework in place. Your mission is to turn that foundation into a scalable platform that makes future integrations faster to build, easier to maintain, and more reliable for customers.
This is a highly hands-on engineering role. You'll spend most of your time designing and building integrations, improving the underlying platform, and making technical decisions that directly impact our product and growth. You'll work closely with our CTO, founders, product stakeholders, and development team, while occasionally participating in customer and partner discussions when needed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building scalable integrations between Operating and third-party SaaS platforms
- Developing the underlying integration framework and platform architecture
- Owning the technical direction of the integration domain
- Building connectors for systems such as ERP, HRIS, payroll, CRM, finance, and expense management platforms
- Collaborating with customers, integration partners, and internal stakeholders to define integration requirements
Our tech
The backend is a TypeScript modular monolith running on AWS, with Postgres as the source of truth. The frontend is React with tRPC, Tailwind, and shadcn — types flow end to end. The product integrates with the tools our customers already live in (CRMs, HRIS, accounting), and exposes a REST API alongside an MCP server for AI clients.
Test coverage is strong but pragmatic — we test what earns its keep, not for a 100% number. AI tools are available to every engineer, and everyone uses them day to day. We deploy continuously, and every PR gets reviewed before it lands.
What makes you a great fit?
You're an experienced software developer who has built integrations in production environments and understands the challenges that come with connecting complex business systems. You enjoy taking ownership, making pragmatic technical decisions, and turning ambiguous requirements into working solutions. Most importantly, you're excited about joining a small startup where your work has an immediate impact on customers, product direction, and company growth.
You are expected to have:
- Strong experience designing and building software integrations in production environments
- Experience working with business-critical SaaS systems such as ERP, HR, payroll, finance, CRM, or similar platforms
- Solid understanding of APIs, authentication mechanisms, data synchronization, and integration patterns
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking, combined with the ability to independently drive technical initiatives
- A full working proficiency in English for day-to-day collaboration (Finnish skills are a plus)
Bonus points if you have experience with:
- TypeScript, Node.js, JavaScript, PostgreSQL, or AWS
- Multi-tenant SaaS architectures
- Experience building integration platforms, frameworks, or reusable integration tooling
- Previous experience in B2B SaaS product companies
- Experience working directly with customers or integration partners
- Finnish language skills
Why you’ll love it here

About the company
At Operating, we’re building a modern operating system for professional services. Operating is the SaaS tool we wished we had when co-founding and running consultancies ourselves, like Futurice, Reaktor, and Columbia Road. We believe the world of consulting and agencies is full of inefficiencies that limit what ambitious teams can do. We help companies put the right people into the right projects and focus on what truly matters: delivering high-value client work. With customers around the world and strong retention, we’re a team that ships fast, works autonomously, stays close to customers, and values kindness, pragmatism, and ownership.
