Would you like to work as a deputy underwriter in a global, market-leading marine and energy insurer?

We are looking for a Deputy Underwriter to join our Offshore & International Renewables team based in Copenhagen. Your focus will be to support the underwriting of International Onshore Renewables, such as Onshore Wind, Solar, BESS (Battery Systems) etc. In this role, you will support the underwriting team through accurate execution of defined underwriting tasks and disciplined application of underwriting standards. You will contribute to portfolio quality, operational efficiency, and your own development of underwriting judgement and technical understanding under close guidance.

Working closely with Underwriters and brokers, you will assist in risk assessments for new business and projects, and prepare quotations, renewals, endorsements, and documentation with high accuracy and strong data quality. You will maintain underwriting data in relevant systems, identify changes or uncertainties, and flag deviations for escalation in line with governance requirements.

There is a strong focus at Gard on cross-functional and cross-team collaboration. We are looking for a candidate who thrives in a collaborative environment and demonstrates a strong team-oriented mindset. The ideal candidate will actively contribute to team goals, communicate openly, and foster positive working relationships across departments.

Key responsibilities:

  • Analyze risk information using established tools, templates, and guidelines to support risk assessments for new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments.
  • Identify obvious risk drivers, inconsistencies, and missing information; document findings clearly and escalate cases outside your authority or experience.
  • Build underwriting judgement and technical understanding through supervised decision-making, coaching, and feedback from Underwriters.
  • Prepare and process quotations, renewals, and related documentation with high accuracy, maintaining strong data quality in Gard systems.
  • Prepare endorsements and other changes to existing policies in collaboration with the Responsible Underwriter; flag changes, deviations, or uncertainties for escalation.
  • Maintain, validate, and quality-check underwriting data to ensure accuracy, completeness, traceability, and auditability.
  • Support collection of premium and other amounts due to Gard by coordinating with internal stakeholders and assisting with client/broker billing queries and follow-up as needed.
  • Provide high levels of service to clients and brokers, responding to requests promptly and professionally.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders across functions and locations.

Who are you?

  • Preferrable minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in underwriting, insurance operations, broking, or a related role (renewables/construction/operational risks experience is an advantage).
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of insurance concepts, policy structures, and underwriting processes; able to apply standards, tools, and templates consistently.
  • Confident in identifying inconsistencies, missing information, or deviations, and escalating matters outside your authority or experience.
  • Keen on seeking out, building, fostering and maintaining productive relationships or alliances to meet goals and achieve objectives.
  • You can structure and organised tasks, work independently with attention to detail, and contribute effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment (locally and globally).
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, brokers, and clients.
  • Solution and result-oriented mindset.
  • Have a strong cultural awareness and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken Danish and English.

We perform background checks on all relevant candidates through our partner EY.
