Engineering Manager / Tech Lead – Agentic Commerce

Agentic shopping will change how people discover, decide, and pay — and we’re putting together the team that will make it real. We’re looking for an Engineering Manager / Tech Lead who can help shape both the team and the technology behind it.
This is not a role for someone who wants to manage from a distance. We need a hands-on builder: Someone who can lead people, set technical direction, write code, make decisions, and help turn messy ideas into working software.

What you’ll do
You’ll take a leading role in our Agentic Commerce team in the new Merchants area. The team is building Vipps MobilePay’s shopping assistant and exploring how AI agents can help users discover, decide, and buy — while helping merchants grow in a new era of commerce.
You’ll be responsible for both people and technology: Helping engineers grow, creating clarity, setting direction, and building a team culture with high ownership, speed, and trust.
You’ll also be hands-on. You’ll ideate, build, integrate, test, break, fix, and ship. You’ll help turn emerging tech and LLM-driven concepts into robust prototypes and customer-ready products used across the Nordics.
You’ll help define our technical strategy: How we build scalable services, work with AI tools and agentic systems, integrate with merchants and partners, and make the right calls on architecture, quality, security, and speed.
You’ll also help the team work in a new way. AI tooling is changing how software is built, and we want someone curious and pragmatic about how engineering teams can use AI to move faster without lowering the bar.
Skills & Requirements
What we’re looking for
- Solid experience as a senior backend or full-stack engineer, and ideally experience leading engineers — as an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, or similar.
- Comfortable taking people responsibility: Coaching, feedback, expectations, and growth.
- Hands-on experience building services, APIs, integrations, and production systems.
- Ability to make and communicate technical decisions when the path is unclear.
- Strong product mindset: You care about users, merchants, business impact, and shipping useful things.
- Interest in, or experience with, LLMs, AI tooling, agentic systems, or AI-assisted software development.

- You’re a builder and a leader.
- You enjoy helping people succeed, but you also like getting close to the code. You can zoom out to discuss strategy, then zoom in to debug an integration, review an architecture proposal, or build the first version yourself.
- You bring structure when things are messy. You’re curious about new tech, especially AI, but you’re not blindly chasing hype. You care about what actually helps the team build better software, faster.
- You listen, challenge, and collaborate — but when the team needs direction, you’re willing to take a position.
- You communicate clearly in English, both when things go well and when they don’t.
