The role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Chief Accountant to lead our financial operations and drive excellence in accounting practices. Reporting directly to the Regional South Finance Director, this pivotal role will oversee all aspects of financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance, ensuring the company’s financial health aligns with our mission of sustainability in the fresh produce industry. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset, a passion for innovation, and a proven track record in managing financial teams and systems.
As Chief Accountant, you will be responsible for managing the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring adherence to local and international accounting standards and tax compliance. You’ll lead a team of accountants, providing mentorship and guidance while optimizing processes to increase efficiency. Key projects include implementing advanced accounting software, integrating financial data with sustainability metrics, and supporting strategic initiatives aimed at reducing costs while promoting eco-friendly packaging solutions.

Skills & Requirements
You
You have extensive experience overseeing the full accounting cycle, including managing monthly closings and supplier accounting processes, with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance. You excel in handling complex tasks such as managing amortization schedules, deferred taxes for Corporate Income Tax, and ensuring proper control of inter-company and related-party transactions. With a proven ability to supervise and coordinate accounting and tax departments, you are skilled in preparing detailed financial reports for senior management. Your expertise in ERP systems, particularly SAP, sets you apart, along with your organizational skills, attention to detail, and adaptability in dynamic environments.
Further:
- You hold a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (a Master's degree in a relevant area is a plus).
- You have at least 5 years of professional experience in accounting, including leadership roles, with a strong focus on compliance, inter-company operations, and financial reporting. Experience in an international working environment is highly preferred.
- You bring advanced proficiency in SAP and a deep understanding of tax reporting and financial analysis.
- You are fluent in Spanish (native) and have a high level of proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
- You possess essential competencies such as responsibility, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work autonomously while adapting to changing priorities.
- You will lead and be responsible for managing a dedicated team, ensuring their success and development within the accounting department.

-We are founded in 1992.
-We introduced our iconic green reusable plastic crates (RPCs) in the 90's, which became a staple in the transportation and storage of fresh produce across Europe.
-In the mid-2000s, we implemented RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) technology to track and trace our RPCs more efficiently.
-In 2021 we started using the first recycled folding trays.
-We’ve got over 70 service centres all over Europe – you can find us in most countries. So, wherever you are in Europe, our efficient network has got you covered.
-Through new technologies and knowledge, we were able to lower our washing temperature in 2022 which resulted in significant reduction of between 47% and 52% in our gas consumption.
-In 2017 we agreed that we want to reduce our carbon footprint by 20% by 2025 by implementing several improvement projects.
