(Senior) Programmer - World Building

Remedy Entertainment, the creator of Control®, Max Payne®, Alan Wake®, and one of the leading independent game studios in the world, is looking for a programmer to join our in-house Northlight engine team and support our world building systems to create high-quality gaming experiences for the next generation of games.

As a (Senior) Programmer in Northlight’s World Building team, you will have a key part in defining and building the tools, workflows, and features that support our content teams in creating world-class content. You will collaborate with the team to design, develop, and deliver these systems, while maintaining existing tools and driving their ongoing improvement.

The role can be tailored to match your skills and interests.

We enthusiastically welcome diverse viewpoints and backgrounds. At Remedy, we value and are committed to ensuring an inclusive and safe work environment for all our team members.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

  • In this role, you will work with the core functionality of the World building team, such as the level editor, gizmos, landscape tooling, and the Lua based engine plugin system.
  • Collaborate closely with our content teams to discuss requirements at an early stage, build prototypes, iterate based on feedback, and optimize your solutions for performance and usability.
  • Manage and improve workflows by balancing technical solutions with the desirable outcomes, making well-informed trade‑offs when needed.
  • Make motivated decisions about when to leverage available commercial tooling and when to make custom solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews and take pride in writing clean, efficient, readable, portable, and reliable code. This while understanding that success is not measured purely by the quality of your code, but the value that you are able to provide to people using it.
  • As a member of the Northlight World Building team, we also expect you to contribute to the overall performance of the engine and it’s API design.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

  • You have a strong programming background and deep proficiency in C++, with strong multithreaded programming skills.
  • You are used to working with UI frameworks, such as WPF, ImGui or Qt.
  • You have the ability to take ownership of building and designing tools and to drive them to final quality, working closely with end users.
  • You have great communication skills and enjoy elaborating your technical solutions to colleagues in engineering, design, and art teams alike.
  • You can communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing, since it’s essential for working with cross‑disciplinary teams and sharing technical information clearly.
  • You thrive working in a team environment, sharing ideas and learning from others. You are used to collaborating with colleagues across different departments and you are able to communicate and present your ideas in a clear and coherent way. As a team member, you are dedicated to contributing towards a friendly and inclusive work environment.
  • You can also work independently, being organized and able to document your work.

Additional Skills We Would Like to See:

  • Experience working with game engines and tools from the (AAA) games industry, with at least one shipped title
  • Knowledge in DCCs (e.g. Autodesk Maya, Blender, Houdini), USD (Universal Scene Description) by Pixar and/or Lua.
  • Proficient in programming skills in C#.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
