Job Description

KTH Ventures is managing a start-up project emanating from research at KTH revolutionizing diagnostic imaging. The project is pushing the boundaries of what is possible in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology by applying advanced deep learning to solve critical problems in acute stroke care. The core mission is to develop novel AI image analysis solutions that predict advanced diagnostic information from non-contrast CT scans, aiming to accelerate stroke diagnosis and reduce patient exposure to contrast agents. We are now looking for a Research Scientist to join a growing team and drive the development of the core algorithms.

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Research Scientist to lead the R&D during an initial one-year contract position starting in September 2026 with a possibility for extension depending on performance. In this role, you will bridge the gap between theoretical deep learning and clinical application, guiding research efforts and contributing to the advancement of next-generation diagnostic tools. Some of this work will be done as part of ongoing international collaborations, like one with University of Cambridge and Addenbrooke’s hospital. The position requires a startup mindset, i.e. the ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver high-quality prototypes under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

- Algorithm Development: Design, train, and validate state-of-the-art deep learning models.

- Scalable implementation: optimize performance and scalability using distributed computing and GPUs.

- Data processing pipeline: Build and maintain pipelines for importing and preprocessing multi-modal data for training/validation of AI models.

- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with neurosurgeons, radiologists and software engineers to integrate research models into clinical deployment pipelines.

- Scientific Communication: Disseminate findings through patents, internal technical reports, and publications in top-tier conferences/journals.

Why Join Us?

Impact: The technology directly impacts outcomes for stroke patients - you save lives through code.

Innovation: Solve complex imaging problems using the latest AI techniques.

Culture: Join a collaborative, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial environment where your contributions have immediate visibility.

Compensation: salary depending on experience, with the possibility of equity participation after the first year based on performance and company growth.

Skills & Requirements

Required Qualifications:

- MSc/PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Medical Physics, or a related field.

- Deep Learning Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of Python and PyTorch.

- Experience in Medical Image Analysis or Computer Vision.

- Work Permits: Valid work permit for Sweden.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Mathematical Proficiency: Background from inverse problems or signal processing

- Strong Publication Record: History of first-author publications.

- Medical Data Fluency: Experience handling 3D/4D medical imaging formats (DICOM, NIfTI) and libraries (SimpleITK).

- Clinical Knowledge: Understanding of neuroradiology or perfusion imaging physics.
