As Staff Chief Engineer, you are 2nd in command of the engine department, reporting directly into the Chief Engineer.

Leading the team onboard, you will be responsible for the daily management of the work in the engine department. You will be responsible for always ensuring that the activities are carried out in an efficient, safe and secure manner making sure that the work is completed to a high standard.

Within this role you will have a 'can-do' attitude, who is a role model and a leader for the future. An inclusive team player who is able to coach and support your team.

Skills & Requirements

The main duties and responsibilities are:

  • Supervision of and assignment of tasks to engine department personnel
  • Management of watchkeeping personnel in the Engine Room and related areas
  • Issue and enforcement of appropriate Permits to Work
  • Controlling and recording the inventory and economic use of Engine spares and consumables
  • Supervise bunkering operations as required
  • Management of the Planned Maintenance System
  • Act as mentor to engine crew, including cadets, assistants and trainees
  • Assist cadets with the completion of Training Record Books
  • Complete specific training documentation according to Company policy

Qualifications / Experience

  • Valid CoC Chief Engineer, issued by a recognized administration
  • Documented minimum 24 months practical experience as a 1st Engineer / Staff Chief Engineer on a passenger vessel.
  • Management experience of leading an international team
  • Experience of sailing on expedition vessels an advantage
  • Documented good all-round competence relating to the platform’s different systems with particular emphasis on all technical systems.
  • Completed training in the company's governing documentation.
  • In compliance to the flag State competence requirements and documentation
  • Fluent written/oral English language
