Engineering Apprenticeship – Bakery Industry

Location: Bedford & Milton Keynes

Qualification: Level 3, Food & Drink Maintenance Engineer

About the Training Programme

Your apprenticeship combines hands‑on engineering experience at our sites with technical training delivered by MGTS (Midland Group Training Services).

Residential Training at MGTS (Coventry)

Your technical training will include residential blocks at MGTS, with accommodation fully funded by Lantmännen Unibake:

  • 22 weeks in Year 1
  • 14 weeks in Year 2
  • 6 weeks in Year 3

This industry‑leading training will equip you with essential mechanical, electrical and automation skills.

Travel Between Sites

There may be times where you’ll need to travel between our Milton Keynes and Bedford sites to support your training and development. A driving licence is highly desirable for this reason.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Engineering Apprentice, you’ll work with experienced engineers to:

  • Maintain and repair machinery on our production lines
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical and automation faults
  • Carry out preventative maintenance
  • Learn how food production equipment works and how to keep it running efficiently
  • Support continuous improvement across our bakery operations

Skills & Requirements

You’ll gain practical experience, real responsibility and support from expert mentors throughout your programme.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Keen interest in engineering and the food manufacturing industry
  • Strong problem‑solving ability and attention to detail
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to learn in a fast‑paced environment
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, Science and English
  • Driving licence highly desirable due to travel between sites
  • You must be 18 years old by 1 August 2026
  • You must have the right to work in the UK, not time-limited and not requiring sponsorship now or after qualification

After completing your apprenticeship, you could progress to a fully qualified Maintenance Engineer, with opportunities to specialise in:
