We were established in Finland in 2007, and in 2008 we were the first company to launch a mobile-payable employee benefit payment solution in Europe. Since then, we have consistently grown, diversifying our products and introducing our services into new markets.

We are strengthening our mobile engineering team to build and scale a unified consumer app platform, starting in Germany and growing across the EU. This role exists to establish a solid, scalable React Native foundation built for long-term growth.

This role sits within the Engineering function and is part of a cross-functional product team of 8 engineers, one product owner, one designer, and one QA.

The Role

You will take ownership of the Epassi consumer mobile application - designing, building, and evolving it with quality, scalability, and long-term maintainability at the centre. You are the engineer who ensures our React Native app can grow as fast as our ambitions demand. You will contribute to architectural decisions and shape how we build, operate, and continuously improve mobile solutions across the Epassi group.

Success Criteria

• The mobile app is stable, well-structured, and shipping reliably on a weekly delivery cadence within the first 90 days
• Architectural patterns are in place that support long-term scalability and modularisation
• Technical debt is actively identified and reduced, not just managed
• You are a trusted, effective collaborator across Product, Design, Backend, QA, and DevOps

Key Responsibilities

This role has two core focus areas - mobile engineering and architecture - plus how we expect you to operate.

Mobile Engineering (primary focus)

• Build and maintain high-quality mobile features using React Native, TypeScript, and Expo
• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code and hold peers to the same standard through code review
• Integrate REST and/or GraphQL APIs in close collaboration with Backend Engineers
• Monitor app behaviour, analyse issues, and support incident resolution
• Write and maintain tests using Maestro to ensure consistent quality

Architecture and Technical Ownership

• Shape and refine the mobile app architecture with scalability and modularisation as guiding principles
• Lead and contribute to architectural discussions and document decisions clearly
• Proactively identify and reduce technical debt
• Support build, release, and deployment processes for iOS and Android, including ownership of Google Play Console and App Store Connect processes

Release and Delivery

• Own the full app release management cycle end-to-end, from build pipelines through to publishing on Google Play Console and App Store Connect
• Manage source code using Git, maintaining clean branching and release practices
• Work within a weekly delivery cadence: plan on Monday, demo to leadership on Friday
• Participate in agile ceremonies (planning, refinements, reviews, retrospectives) while keeping meeting load lean so the team can focus on delivery

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Product Owners and Designers to refine requirements and deliver user value
• Collaborate with Backend, QA, and DevOps to support smooth operation under a "you build it, you run it" mindset
• Leverage AI-native development tools and workflows (such as Copilot, Cursor, and Claude) to accelerate delivery and improve code quality - and set the standard for AI-assisted engineering practices across the team

You'll be a great fit if you have:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with React Native (non-negotiable for this level)
• A track record of delivering mobile applications or major features end-to-end
• Solid experience with app release management tools and processes, including Google Play Console, App Store Connect, or equivalent deployment tooling
• Experience contributing to or shaping scalable mobile architectures in long-lived products
• Worked effectively in cross-functional teams alongside Product, Design, and Backend
• Comfortable working in a high-pace, high-change environment where the team ships weekly
• Proficiency with Git or equivalent source code management tools
• Java experience is a bonus - useful given the team's cross-functional setup and occasional need for backend support

Languages: Fluent English required. German is a bonus.
