We are currently hiring a Backend Developer (Java) to be based in Milan.

Your mission at Epassi

As part of the Engineering team at Epassi, you will play a key role in shaping the evolution of our digital corporate welfare platforms. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the design, development, and continuous improvement of reliable, scalable, and user‑centric solutions that support thousands of employees and partner companies across Italy.

Your responsabilities will be:

You will directly impact the quality, performance, and innovation of the systems that power Epassi’s mission: enabling better everyday wellbeing through intuitive, secure, and modern technology. By bringing your expertise, curiosity, and ownership mindset, you will help us build the next generation of our platform while supporting the broader transformation toward a more modular, cloud‑based, future‑ready architecture.

What you’ll be doing (daily):

  • Work with cross-functional teams to analyze business requirements and convert them into scalable backend solutions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain Java-based microservices using Spring Boot and modern architectural patterns.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the AWS-based middleware (e.g., Lambda, ECS Fargate, SQS, API Gateway, DynamoDB/RDS).
  • Build and maintain REST APIs, ensuring reliability, versioning discipline, and performance.
  • Collaborate with the Salesforce and frontend teams to ensure smooth integration between backend systems and external applications.
  • Implement secure, maintainable, and well-documented code using modern engineering practices.
  • Participate in unit, integration, and load testing to ensure system stability and quality.
  • Work closely with the global DevOps team on CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring, and deployment flows.
  • Contribute to architectural evolution by identifying opportunities to improve performance, scalability, and modularity.
  • Produce clear documentation that supports system maintainability and onboarding of future team members.

What we are looking for:

  • 3+ years of experience developing backend applications with Java, preferably using Spring Boot.
  • Solid understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems and API-driven design.
  • Experience with AWS services (e.g., Lambda, ECS, API Gateway, SQS, S3, RDS, DynamoDB)
  • Strong knowledge of REST API design, event-driven patterns, and integration best practices.
  • Proficiency in SQL (PostgreSQL or MySQL); familiarity with NoSQL datastores is a plus.
  • Experience with GitHub and modern CI/CD workflows.
  • Knowledge of ETL/data integration concepts; familiarity with Talend or similar tools is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of Salesforce or other CRM systems is a plus.
  • Strong foundation in software design principles, clean code, OOP, and secure coding practices.
