Job Description

KTH Ventures is managing a start-up project emanating from research at KTH revolutionizing diagnostic imaging. The project is pushing the boundaries of what is possible in radiology by applying advanced deep learning to solve critical problems in acute stroke care. The core mission is to develop novel AI solutions that predict advanced diagnostic information from non-contrast CT scans, aiming to accelerate stroke diagnosis and reduce patient exposure to contrast agents. We are now looking for a Research Scientist to join a growing team and drive the development of the core algorithms.

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Research Scientist to lead the R&D during a one-year contract position starting in February 2026. In this role, you will bridge the gap between theoretical deep learning and clinical application, guiding research efforts and contributing to the advancement of next-generation diagnostic tools. This position is ideal for someone with a PhD and relevant industry experience, with a track record of publishing in high-impact journals and a passion for saving lives through code.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead Algorithm Development: Design, train, and validate state-of-the-art deep learning models.
    • Technical Leadership: define the research roadmap and provide mentorship to junior researchers and engineers.
    • Data Compliance & Licensing: Oversee data collection strategies to ensure all training datasets strictly adhere to commercial licensing agreements, ethical approvals, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR) suitable for medical device development.
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with radiologists and software engineers to integrate research models into clinical deployment pipelines.
    • Scientific Dissemmination: Disseminate findings through internal technical reports, patents and publications in top-tier conferences/journals.

    Why Join Us?

    • Impact: Work on technology that directly impacts stroke outcomes and patient safety.
    • Innovation: Solve complex imaging problems using the latest AI techniques.
    • Culture: Join a collaborative, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial environment where your contributions have immediate visibility.

Skills & Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Medical Physics, or a related field.
  • Postdoctoral or industry experience in Medical Image Analysis or Computer Vision.
  • Strong Publication Record: Proven history of first-author publications.
  • Deep Learning Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of Python and PyTorch.
  • Mathematical Depth: Strong background in inverse problems or physics-informed deep learning.
  • Work Permits: Valid work permit for Sweden.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Medical Data Fluency: Experience handling 3D/4D medical imaging formats (DICOM, NIfTI) and libraries (SimpleITK).
  • Startup Mindset: Ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver high-quality prototypes under tight deadlines.
  • Clinical Knowledge: Understanding of neuroradiology, hemodynamics, or perfusion imaging physics.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with software development lifecycles for medical devices (ISO 13485, IEC 62304) or FDA/MDR clearance processes.
