
Key Responsibilities
1. Break-Fix
Work outside normal business hours (including nights and weekends) as needed
2. Remote Hands
Install and test data center equipment following Method of Procedures (MOPs).
Interpret vendor documentation, technical specifications, and engineering diagrams.
Understand telephony, optical, and IP networks.
Identify cable colors and equipment indicator lights accurately.
3. Cabling
Pull and install heavy cables in overhead racks or grids.
Handle and troubleshoot Ethernet and fiber cables (CAT5, CAT6, structured cable, fan-outs, single-mode, multi-mode, RJ45, LC).
4. Optical Testing & Troubleshooting
Place and connect equipment per project specifications.
Perform local/remote testing and turn-up of Ethernet, fiber, and power cables.
Use optical power meters, OTDR, VFL, and test tools for 10/100G circuits (BERT, RFC2544, EtherSAM, iPerf).
Assist with card-level troubleshooting and replacements.
5. Site Audits
Validate equipment placement and cable assignments.
Document results in proprietary databases.
6. Racking & Stacking
Install and organize hardware in racks using hand and power tools.
Understand mechanical installation specifications.
7. Decommissioning
Safely remove and dispose of outdated hardware following data destruction protocols.
8. Hardware Replacement
Replace faulty components (routers, servers, switches, network equipment).
9. Power Management
Work with power feeds, ATS, and manage hot/cold aisles.
10. Documentation
Interpret cut-sheets for accurate port connections and cable management.
11. AC/DC Power Equipment
Maintain and troubleshoot AC/DC power systems.
12. Oversight
Supervise third-party on-site activities.
Qualifications
Experience:
3–5 years in data center operations or similar environment.
Team lead experience preferred.
Soft Skills:
Self-starter, independent worker, strong communication skills.
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
Ability to learn quickly and adhere to safety standards.
Collaborate across departments and use Hyperscale systems for communication.
Other:
US Citizenship required.
Physical Requirements
Lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
Work in confined spaces and at heights.
