Job Description

Lead a senior cloud engineering team building the platform that accelerates renewable energy integration worldwide.

Key responsibilities

In this role you will lead the cloud software area of Reactive’s product, taking ownership of the platform that transforms real-time grid data into actionable insights for operators worldwide. You focus on ensuring the system evolves effectively as both customer numbers and data volumes grow, while guiding the development of new cloud-based capabilities that originate from our research organization.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Driving new product development in the cloud
  • Ensuring the platform remains scalable and reliable by overseeing refactoring and architectural improvements
  • Turning research-driven ideas and new analytical methods into production-ready cloud services
  • Balancing people leadership with hands-on technical direction in close collaboration with Product Management

You’ll lead an experienced software professionals team, including senior developers and a lead architect, along with occasional subcontractors. You guide daily development work, clarify requirements, support architectural decisions, and help the team assess whether customer needs can be met with existing components or require new development. You coordinate work across customer cases, manage resourcing, and ensure that deliveries stay aligned with long-term product goals. The role includes active participation, backlog planning, and contribution to both smaller improvements and larger end-to-end product initiatives.

As part of the Finnish leadership team, you participate in weekly management meetings and provide clear status updates on ongoing projects and team progress. This is a hybrid role combining operational direction with strategic input—close to the codebase while supporting the team’s growth and success.

What makes you a great fit?

You thrive in a growth-stage, low-hierarchy environment where technical leadership and hands-on problem-solving go hand in hand. You enjoy working with senior engineers and guiding them through the development of complex cloud services. You communicate clearly, make decisions efficiently, and foster an open, collaborative atmosphere. You are motivated by building scalable systems that serve critical national infrastructure and by contributing directly to a more sustainable energy future.

We require you to have:

  • 8+ years of experience in software development and strong familiarity with modern cloud environments
  • Some experience leading software development teams, including daily management of senior engineers
  • Practical experience with Agile/Scrum, backlog planning and coordination across multiple projects
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based software development (AWS preferred), modern service architectures and scalable system design
  • Excellent communication skills and full professional proficiency in English
  • Relevant university degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar

We consider as an asset:

  • Experience with AWS microservices, Golang or TypeScript or Linux.
  • Familiarity with Terraform, Python or C++
  • Background in growth companies or environments with evolving processes
  • Exposure to energy or power-system-related domains
  • Ability to support code reviews or hands-on investigation when needed

We can offer you:

  • The opportunity to lead impactful cloud development that advances how renewable energy is integrated into power grids worldwide
  • A chance to work with senior engineers and researchers who help you push technical boundaries in a rapidly evolving product domain
  • A role where your decisions genuinely shape both product direction and team ways of working within a flat and supportive organization
  • A flexible hybrid setup that supports your work–life balance while keeping you closely connected to the Oulu-based team
  • Access to a mission-driven global company backed by strong investors and patented technology that gives your work a meaningful advantage

Practicalities:

This is a full-time and permanent position in which you will be employed directly by Reactive Technologies Finland Oy. The preferred starting date is early April 2026 to enable a two-month handover with the retiring incumbent. The role is based in Oulu, and due to its leadership focus, regular on-site presence is expected. Occasional travel may occur (approximately 1–2 trips per year).

Sounds like you? Please submit your CV and motivation letter in PDF-format in English latest by the 11th of January via our application system. Please note that we are actively reviewing applications throughout the application period and processing them in the order they are received.
