Control Systems Engineer

As a Control Systems Engineer, you ensure our production installations run reliably and efficiently by designing, modifying, and optimizing automation systems and software. Working closely with Operations and Manufacturing Engineering, you drive improvements in line performance, quality, and technology implementation from design to testing.

You have the responsibility to develop, engineer, implement, monitor and control the technical solutions needed to operate the lines with the required output and product performance. You always seek the best technical solution that balances:

  • Safety of operations;
  • Quality of the product;
  • Continuity and efficiency of manufacturing;
  • Time to develop;
  • Costs and planning.

On a daily basis, working on either new lines/equipment, updates to existing lines/equipment or malfunctions you will:

  • Design and engineer automation software (e.g.: PLC, SCADA/Operator Panel, databases, controllers, PID, safety program, state machines), and hardware (e.g.: IO-configuration, sensors, actuators, cabling, etc.);
  • Analyse fit-for-purpose (e.g.: functionality, stability etc.);
  • Write, simulate and test robust control software with an alarming and operator-friendly HMI;
  • Prepare documentation, P&ID, control flows, manuals and (work) instructions;
  • Implementation, simulation, debugging, testing and commissioning of automation solutions;
  • Provide calibration and maintenance tools and methods;
  • Pro-actively act on experience performance of controls (malfunctions, software/hardware issues inducing product quality issues, etc.);
  • Writing functional specifications for software/hardware requirements for purchased equipment;
  • Interaction with/management of suppliers, including attending off-site factory acceptance tests (FAT) at suppliers when necessary.

You are part of the team that provides, on a rota basis, consignment (on-call duty) support to the production facility out of working hours to ensure that faults/malfunctions are dealt with in a timely manner to allow production schedules to be maintained.

Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Automation or Electrical Engineering;
  • At least 3 years of experience in automation software development;
  • Beckhoff TwinCAT-3 knowledge is a big plus;
  • Malfunction troubleshooting experience in/with automation software;
  • Understanding of project management methodologies;
