When old technology is phased out and overtaken by electrification in the coming years, batteries are going to become the differentiating factor. With increasing technology differentiation and growth of R&D efforts from sophisticated customers, especially in the automotive industry, our strategy with Northvolt Labs in Västerås is to provide a facility for them to develop their own design, then test, industrialize and qualify it, before taking it to large-scale production. Northvolt Labs is a cutting-edge demonstration line and R&D center that will enable fully process representative manufacturing and allow a faster and more efficient time to market for unique formulations, cell formats and technology.

As a Production Manager you proactively set actions according to Northvolt values, routines, budget, management system and plan. A safe operation production line is our highest priority. This role will work closely with Site Manager, Shift Leaders, Production Manager, Safety, Quality, Environment, Maintenance and Process teams. You will get the unique opportunity to be a part of building the first manufacturing team at Northvolt. The Production Manager is accountable for the manufacturing in Västerås and reports to the Head of Manufacturing. The Production Manager will be working in an international environment having both internal and external guests and customers visiting the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safe operations with daily and monthly follow up on reporting and improvement actions. Ensure proactive behavior and empower a positive safety culture on site with employees and contractors.
  • Optimize output from manufacturing with efficient organization, investments, quality and yield improvements.
  • Reduction of stop time, automation and process optimizations. Budget responsibility manufacturing.
  • Be a role model in creating an engaging and including working environment with purpose driven actions.
  • Capacity and manufacturing scheduling. Shift scheduling and manning optimization. Calculations for output and yield.
  • Part of the local Management team in Västerås with key responsibilities.
  • Budget- and employee responsibility. Development of competence, training and compensation in close cooperation with HR.
  • Close co-operation with project-, process-, purchasing-, automation- and maintenance in order to increase efficiency.

Skills & Requirements

Skills and Requirements:

  • > 5 years of experience from Manager position in process industry and Swedish legislation.
  • > 10 years of experience working in Process Industry (batteries, pulp- and paper, chemicals, medicals, microelectronics, food, energy)
  • Engineering degree from university.
  • Proven experience from working with safety behavior and safety improvements in process industry a must.
  • P&ID competence for mechanical and E/I , ATEX, chemicals handling, pressurized equipment legislation.
  • Experience of scale up of manufacturing with installation of equipment, piping, pumps, valves, control tools, chemicals, electronics and chemicals. Installation and Start-up experience of process equipment.
  • Strong background from technical culture and proven multicultural leadership.
  • Experience of negotiations with local unions, suppliers and contractors.
  • Understands how to optimize the factory power demands.
  • Good experience from automation and control systems.
  • Proven Results from structured improvement work (CI, LEAN, 6 Sigma, DOE)
  • A role model in engagement, inclusion and developing talents. It is essential that you are able to work independently and in team work with good cooperation skills helping others and Northvolt become successful.
  • English and Swedish in oral and written, as we are working in an international organization and it’s required that you can talk and write with employees of Northvolt, suppliers, authorities, customers, owners and visitors.
  • Good communication and administrative skills (Office, reporting and control programs)
  • Experience from, and motivated to, setting up work methods and procedures from scratch. Lock Tag Try routines, permit routines, reporting, SOP:s, contracts,
  • High work ethic, multi-tasker, strong analytical ability and attention to details, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration.
