Laboratory Technician / Engineer – Li-ion battery research and development

Northvolt is now looking for Laboratory Technicians / Engineers to be part of our battery cell Research and Development team and facility. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager and you will be responsible for instrumental operations, laboratory maintenance and planning within the scope of battery R&D for the worlds greenest and most sustainable of Li-ion battery cells.

With a thorough understanding and experiences with laboratory operations of research and development issues you will be an integral part in the materials characterization, cell manufacturing, testing, verification and qualification of new generation of Li-ion battery cells. You will be part of a successful development works towards the highest yield rate for the evaluation, production and process optimization.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting and supporting R&D operations and experiments
  • Planning, setting up and undertaking controlled experiments and trials
  • Operating laboratory equipment and machines based on operational procedure

  • Keeping the equipment and machinery system well maintained and cleane

  • Help the team to perform and innovate

  • Carrying out risk assessments, handling the health and safety procedures during the operation

  • Ordering and maintaining stock and resources

Skills & Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree (or technical school degree) within relevant field and/or comparable work experience
  • Competent experience of R&D related laboratory operations in the area of physics, chemistry and/or materials (preferably in electrochemistry and battery)
  • Experience of working with international colleagues and multicultural environment
  • Recognize the health and safety rules for the laboratory works and operational risks

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration.
