R&D Engineer Simulation-Based Design

Are you a technology-driven engineer or scientist eager to make an impact on the development of innovative products from day one? Then you might be the R&D Engineer Simulation-Based Design we’re looking for!

At Verhaert, innovation is at the heart of everything we do. We believe in the power of simulation-based design to transform product development. Using advanced multiphysics and control loop simulations, we aim for first-time-right, functionally robust products. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary team on cutting-edge projects where your expertise makes a real difference in practical applications.

Your role as an R&D Engineer Simulation-Based Design

As an R&D engineer, you’ll work within the design team to meet the (functional) requirements of newly developed systems. You’ll be involved in the entire development process—from selecting the product architecture and sizing/verifying functional subsystems to prototype testing.

As a simulation engineer, you’ll play a key role in virtually designing, analyzing, and optimizing complex systems. You’ll be part of multidisciplinary projects where mechanics, fluid dynamics, and control engineering seamlessly converge. Your goal? To build digital prototypes that lay the foundation for robust, efficient, and reliable end products.

What will you do?

  • Perform structural, thermal, and flow simulations using leading tools such as Ansys Mechanical and Ansys Fluent.
  • Develop advanced multiphysics simulations using environments like Simscape.
  • Model and optimize control algorithms in Simulink, including automatic code generation for embedded platforms.
  • Actively contribute to a VLAIO research project focused on advanced simulation technologies.
  • Work closely with talented colleagues in mechanical design, embedded hardware, and software development, guided by project and program managers.
  • In addition to the theoretical and scientific aspects of the role, contribute to product- and customer-oriented solutions as part of the R&D team.
  • Define, execute, and analyze tests. Data processing and validation may also be part of your focus.

Who are we looking for?

  • Master’s degree in Engineering Sciences or Industrial Sciences (Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical, Physics), or you have equivalent experience.
  • Goog knowledge of and experience with one or more of the following software tools: Ansys, Fluent, MATLAB, Simulink, Simscape, LabVIEW, or Python.
  • Several years of relevant experience in simulation, R&D, development, or engineering.
  • You have strong analytical skills and the ability to quickly grasp technical problems and propose various solutions — you're a creative problem-solver.
  • You're passionate about technology and product development, with a broad interest in various technological domains.
  • Relevant experience in one or more of the following fields: development of complex mechatronic systems, medical or healthcare devices, FEM or CFD simulations, thermal systems, machine construction, robotics, control engineering, measurement systems, systems engineering, verification and certification.
  • Languages: Dutch (B2) and English (C1) is mandatory, as well as an unlimited working permit for Belgium.

What do we offer you?

  • The opportunity to work on advanced technologies in an inspiring, high-tech environment.
  • Plenty of opportunities to expand your expertise in simulation and system design through real, tangible applications.
  • Participation in challenging projects, including innovative VLAIO research initiatives.
  • A flexible work culture, competitive compensation, and numerous opportunities for professional growth and development.

Does this sound like the next step in your career? Ready to turn your passion for technology into concrete innovations and play a key role in shaping the future of product development? Apply now and help us build the next generation of groundbreaking products!
