Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to join our passionate team in Stockholm.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

The CISO will set the technical direction of Northvolt's information security program and help build the world’s most secure factories and connected products. The CISO has strong security architecture knowledge, as well as leadership skills to drive change and build a culture of security.

As leader of the unit you will have the opportunity to build a world class team which is capable to scale Northvolt’s operations in Sweden and beyond. The CISO will be responsible for building and managing a world class information security team covering red team, internal consulting, infosec engineering, and physical security functions.

The scope of this position spans the organization’s security solutions including software applications, infrastructure (on-prem, cloud, and factory), data management, data integration, physical office/factory security, and external vendor solutions.

This is a unique opportunity to create something new in a flexible fast-paced startup environment. This role will report directly to the Chief Digital Officer and falls within Northvolt's Digitalization group.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Regularly report to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Digital Officer on information security risks, incidents, and compliance with relevant regulations
  • Collaborate with IT, DevOps, and Software Engineering to develop and drive a technical security roadmap which addresses key security priorities

  • Develop Northvolt’s infosec strategy, including defining resource plan for, recruiting, and managing a world class infosec organization

  • Establish and maintain technical security standards, processes, solutions and technical controls that align with security policies and address key security concerns

  • Lead technical architecture discussions within infrastructure and application level security programs across Northvolt

  • Be responsible for information and physical security operations including monitoring, investigations, incident response

  • Hold a central role in actively promoting a culture of information security throughout the IT organization as well as across Northvolt

  • Assist in the development and knowledge transfer to software engineering and IT team members, as well as other teams at Northvolt
  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and monitoring of new information security technologies
  • Oversee regular technical risk assessments/audits of systems and infrastructure

Skills & Requirements


  • Masters in Information Security, Computer Science, or equivalent degree or experience (such as published research or open source leadership)
  • 8+ years of directly applicable work experience in information security; additional experience in software engineering and devops/SRE preferred
  • ​Experience designing and implementing secure architecture and reference architectures; from business requirements gathering to technology rollout oversight, including capacity management, definition of scoring methodologies for technology selection, integration of multiple tools and reporting functionalities, technical documentation.
  • Strong management, recruiting, and leadership skills
  • Experience with cloud and edge/IOT infrastructure, especially with respect to energy and industrial information technology
  • ​We use golang and python, so familiarity and experience in these languages is preferred
  • ​Experience with cyber security frameworks and regulatory requirements, such as NIST, PCI, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA compliance
  • ​Ability to approach security architecture collaboratively and from the perspective of risk management and to avoid purely academic thinking about security
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision makers at all levels of a large organization
  • ​Ability to build and leverage close and collaborative working relationships with peers
  • ​Must leverage a strong security architecture knowledge to drive change, build a culture of security, and support the evolution of the organization
