About Us

Single Photon Quantum Radiology (SPQR) AB is a cutting-edge deep-tech startup on a mission to revolutionize imaging in healthcare. Our groundbreaking technology leverages quantum detector advancements to produce X-ray-quality images using ordinary light, eliminating the health risks of ionizing radiation. By combining these breakthroughs with advanced image processing, we aim to develop systems capable of providing precise and reliable visualizations for a wide range of medical applications.

Our test setup, located at Cancercentrum Karolinska in Solna, has already demonstrated the potential of our technology by visualizing tumor growth in laboratory mice. As we expand our portfolio of use cases, we are seeking an Image Processing Specialist to join us in making this transformative technology a reality.

The team consists of professors with both significant academic and business background, including founding one deep-tech scaleup based in the Netherlands. We have advisors and expert support from both Cancercentrum Karolinska and KTH Innovation.

Job Description

In this role, you will play a critical part in the development and optimization of visualization and image processing techniques for our quantum imaging systems.

Your primary activities, where nr 1 and 2 to be completed during Summer 2025 and nr 3-5 in the long-term:

  1. Enhance the quality of images obtained from our prototype system, which acquires data as bare photon counts (pixel by pixel) via a galvo-steered laser.
  2. Utilize innovative image processing methods, including the formulation of inverse problems reliant on the physics of the data acquisition process, the formulation and implementation of optimization algorithms, and the construction and training of deep learning models, to produce X-ray-like visualizations from photon counts and (optionally) photon arrival timestamps.
  3. Focus on achieving images that are both visually accurate and diagnostically meaningful.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate your work into larger product development efforts.
  5. Drive innovation and build a roadmap for future imaging capabilities in line with company goals.

What We Offer

SPQR AB offers a unique opportunity to join a cutting-edge deep-tech company in life sciences, targeting a multi-billion-dollar market and global expansion. As part of a passionate and innovative team, you’ll work at the forefront of scientific and technological advancements. This role is designed for someone ready to embrace the risks and rewards of co-founding a startup, with ownership in the company. It is not suited for those initially seeking steady pay or short-term consultancy roles.

The journey begins with a 3-month onboarding period (potentially through consultancy assignment), focusing on advancing image processing. Post-onboarding, the intention is for you to become a co-founder, with long-term incentives through equity and option programs. This role requires a significant and growing time commitment aligned with the company’s funding and growth trajectory.
