Senior Product Design Engineer

We are on a journey of continuous growth – now looking for our next star – a passionate Senior Product Design Engineer within our Product Development capability. This position reports to Director, Product Development and will work in Elkhart, IN.

About the position
The Senior Product Design Engineer in the Product Development team will play a pivotal role in the innovation, development, and enhancement of Dometic Corporation’s product offerings. This position will focus on designing, testing, and refining products to meet customer needs and uphold Dometic’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and performance.

Your Main Responsibilities

Product Design and Development:

  • Create, evaluate, and improve designs for new and existing products.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using industry-standard software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Ensure designs meet all applicable standards, regulations, and company quality criteria.
  • Perform engineering calculations and simulations to ensure design integrity.
    Prototyping and Testing:
  • Oversee the prototyping process, including hands-on involvement in building and evaluating prototypes.
  • Conduct testing to ensure product performance, durability, and reliability meet specifications.
  • Analyze test results and implement design changes as needed.
    Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, marketing, manufacturing, procurement and quality, to ensure alignment with customer needs and designs are production ready.
  • Support project managers in maintaining timelines and budgets.
    Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for product improvement and cost optimization without compromising quality.
  • Incorporate feedback from customers and stakeholders to enhance product features and usability.
  • Stay updated on emerging design trends, materials, and technologies.
    Documentation and Compliance:
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, BOMs, and test reports.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal policies.

Skills & Requirements

A suitable background for this role will bring demonstrated success in Product Design as well as having acquired the following qualifications and experiences.

  • Education: bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or a related field.
  • Experience: extensive experience and demonstrated career progression in product design, preferably in the outdoor, recreational, or consumer goods industries.

To be successful in this role, we believe that you possess the following skills, competencies & characteristics:

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Passion for innovation and a customer-focused mindset.
