Financial Controller

Are you used to managing accounting operations and maintenance of the General Ledger? Do you have a succesfull track record of coordinating and directing the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts and report variances? Is preparing and publishing timely monthly financial statements and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting standards something you think is fun? We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to undertake all aspects of financial accounting, including corporate accounting, statutory/regulatory and financial reporting including consolidation. You will also work closely with the Senior Financial Analyst to produce and develop management reporting required by the business to help drive business performance.

You will work with the Business Controllers and coordinate the budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.

This role will also be responsible for helping to embed and optimise the new ERP system to be implemented and ensure the system is aligned with the business processes.

The Financial Controllers responsibilities will also include certain elements of financial risk management.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL and working with the Business Controllers - Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances
  • Working with the Senior Financial Analyst to deliver reports for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting and liaison with the auditors
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance as required
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close process
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting and consolidation
  • Manage and comply with reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Development of the ERP system to optimise and automate processes where possible
  • Act as a point of contact with the external auditors
  • Additional controller duties as necessary and with a keen attention to detail.
  • To assist in recruiting and development of Finance Team as the organisation grows.

Skills & Requirements


  • BSc degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics an advantage
  • 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
  • Proven working experience as a Financial Controller and managing the reporting process
  • Experience at a start up is useful but not essential
  • Advanced degree in Accounting - Professional Qualification an advantage
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, K3 and IFRS
  • Experience of group consolidations is an advatange
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is an advantage
  • Experience with creating financial statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
  • Experience of working with and developing ERP system is required and Microsoft Dynamics an advantage
  • Experience and interest in manufacturing industry is a plus

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration.
