We are on a journey of continuous growth – now looking for our next star – a passionate Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist.

As an Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist in the Safety team, you will be responsible for completing daily activities to promote the protection of life and property as part of the company's loss prevention and Environmental, Health & Safety program.

Your main responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and presenting EHS training programs and assists with the implementation for hot stamp safety, lockout tagout, hazard communication, fall protection, emergency response plan, bloodborne pathogens, hearing conservation program, ergonomics, personal protective equipment, slips, trips & falls, heat/cold stress, machine guarding, fire prevention, and electrical safety.
  • Conduct recertification training for certified/licensed powered industrial truck (forklift) operations.
  • Assist in conducting job hazard analysis, PPE hazard assessment, identifying root cause and resolution.
  • Conduct EHS&S inspections and audits, including but not limited to fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, eyewash stations, etc.
  • Assist with managing our Fire Alarm Systems: ensuring all fire panels and sprinkler systems work according to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Keep up to date on changes in compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Respond to and investigate environmental incidents to participate in clean-up, determine the cause, and recommend corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Assist with conducting new hire EHS orientations.
  • Assist with collecting and maintaining EHS and work-injury documentation to ensure orderly management.
  • Assist with updating metrics to track and trend safety and environmental program performance.
  • Participates in company safety committees and on accident investigation teams as required.
  • Assist with managing the safety corrective actions database by auditing open actions and contacting responsible departments for updates on progress, including auditing and maintaining the forms via the GoCanvas system.
  • Assists with the injury management program by interacting with company employees about appointments, reports, work status, and more.
  • Provides emergency first aid care as needed, as a member of the Emergency Response Team, including transporting injured employees to medical facilities as required.
  • Evaluate contractor activities to ensure compliance with company environmental policies and provide contractor orientation training.
  • Respond to emergencies after hours; participate periodically on EHS Department on call to resolve immediate EHS and security concerns.
  • Participate in project teams for facility/process improvement.
  • Submit Environmental Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMR) monthly to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
  • Responsible for maintaining Waste Storage area, properly disposing of all waste streams quarterly and maintaining waste profiles and manifests
  • Assist with maintaining our Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC)
  • Support Security Officers’ duties as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills & Requirements

A suitable background would be a solid experience within the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of industrial Environmental Health & Safety experience
  • Language skills: Able to read, write, speak and comprehend English. Good communication skills are necessary for presentations.
  • Math skills: Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Require accuracy and precision.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to walk long distances, lift and carry up to 40 lbs and tolerate hot temperatures up to 110ºF.
  • Work environment: General Office and Warehouse environment. The warehouse is hot and humid in the summer months; cold in the winter months.
  • Computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to effectively present instructional materials in front of a classroom.
  • Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle (Valid Texas driver's license required).
  • Must be willing to complete and apply First Aid, CPR and AED training.

To be successful in this role, we believe that you possess the following skills, competencies & characteristics:

  • Experience with TCEQ Environmental and Waste Reporting highly preferred
  • Emergency Medical Training highly desirable (EMT-B, Medic, CPR Certification, etc.).
  • Bilingual
