Northvolt has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Supplier Quality Engineer to join our bold team of Supplier Quality professionals to play a key role in establishing the raw materials for Northvolt production of Li-ion cells.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in enabling supply of the first large scale European Li-ion cells. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society. We are continuously building a team of experienced Quality Engineers and great leaders with industry background.

You will be in charge of early establishment and development of new suppliers, implementing the supplier quality toolbox for supplier quality evaluation and selection, supplier quality agreements etc for Northvolt’s raw materials and components, reporting to the Head of Quality. You will also be responsible for parts qualifications and quality assessment of suppliers to ensure a flawless transition into manufacturing and supply of our products.

The Supplier Quality Engineer will be an expert in supplier quality management, specifically in Automotive industry, which includes deep knowledge in parts development and qualification, PPAP, quality systems, quality process design, quality control and assurance, process robustness and monitoring of raw material quality performance etc. You will play an important role to lead and co-ordinate raw material and component quality, collaborating with Northvolt supply chain, engineering and design, R&D as well as the suppliers.

In general, you have a long experience in supplier quality management and have been driving large, innovative and challenging projects internally and with external partners in the area of new sourcing, quality, qualification, improvements, efficiency and optimisation. Specifically, you have a deep understanding of working and cooperating cross-functionally in a multicultural environment with Supply Chain/Procurement, R&D, Production, Process engineering, IT and Automation.

The candidate should be analytical and logical with an ability to identify opportunities and improvements to drive increased quality through data driven approaches. The candidate should have strong technical abilities in order to succeed in this role.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Embed the Northvolt Supplier Quality Manual with all Suppliers
  • Evaluate and qualify new raw materials and components together with Engineering, R&D and Supply Chain
  • Develop and manage Supplier Quality Agreements
  • Execute supplier audits, specifically QMS audits and process audits
  • Drive past paced parts development with suppliers, with iterative prototyping and testing together with engineering
  • Plan and execute parts qualification and supplier PPAP approvals
  • Set up quality monitoring procedures, evaluate supplier performance and make improvement proposals relating to raw materials and components
  • Oversee the Quality Control and testing plan of raw materials and components, review results and process performance and initiate improvement projects
  • Act as the link between Northvolt manufacturing organisation and suppliers
  • Contribute to implementation of electronic quality data sharing with suppliers
  • Work across many parts of the organisation, collaborating with R&D technical team, Process engineering, Supply Chain, IT & automation and all raw material suppliers.

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • BSc or MSc degree in Physics/Chemistry/Manufacturing/Engineering
  • Education in relevant quality and industrialization discipline
  • Experience and specific knowledge of quality management systems, e.g. IATF16949, ISO 9001, TQM
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience within high volume production
  • Experience of supplier quality management in relevant industry, e.g. Li-ion raw materials, Automotive, Pharmaceutical, Food industries
  • Experience from auditing suppliers
  • Experience in developing processes, standards, procedures and documentation to support efficient Supplier Quality Management
  • Project management skills and a successful track record of leading quality improvements in manufacturing and with suppliers
  • Experience from developing training and certification procedures and programs
  • Knowledgeable in Lean and six sigma
  • Familiar with SPC, FMEA, Quality troubleshooting tools and problem solving methodology
  • Curious, technically educated and preferably with a strong business background

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration.
