Electrical Engineer

A bit about the role:

As Electrical Engineer onboard your responsibilities front of house are for the onboard technology supporting guests, crew, and the shipboard administration with all IT/OT related tasks. A major part of the daily operation is to support the Expedition Team with AV and media solutions. Back of house responsibilities are to assist and support the R&M for technical, machinery and bridge equipment.

The ETO/E reports to the Chief Electrician and is the extended arm of the landside IT/OT department which includes finding solution through problem solving and special project support.

You will be responsible for always ensuring that the activities are carried out in an efficient, safe and secure manner making sure that the work is completed to a high standard and the guest experience is not impacted.

You will act as a role model, be a leader for the future, an inclusive team player who is able to coach and support your team.

Skills & Requirements

Key responsibilities

  • Shipboard first point of contact for in all IT related topics.
  • Support the Chief Electrician in all electrical related topics across the ship.
  • R&M of the shipboard Low Voltage areas including instruments.
  • Execution of tracking of planned and unplanned maintenance.
  • Support and execute electrical equipment overhaul.
  • Manage and maintain all shipboard audio and video media equipment and cabling.
  • Manage, maintain, and operate special Cineflex gyro camera, and Wi-Fi extension hardware and software.
  • Ensure onboard media & entertainment systems are used effectively.
  • Train and support the Expedition staff in technical setup of inside and on-deck presentations.
  • Provide IT information and training to crew based on need, request and information provided by the shore-side support team.
  • Support guest and crew with device set up as needed.
  • Manage Bazeport channels including channel set-up and uploading of content (in cooperation with shore-side team)
  • Coordinate and/or perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implement file backups, and configure systems and applications.
  • Leading work and assist vendors and service personnel as required.
  • Assist the Chief Officer in cyber security matters.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years experience as an Electronic Engineer / 1st ETO onboard cruise or expedition ships
  • Ship ETO/ Electrician license
  • STCW Advanced Safety Course (IMO80)
