Almost a year ago, Danish and Finnish MobilePay and Norwegian Vipps joined forces to become Nordic leaders in fintech. Now, as an independent company with over 600 employees, we have 11.6 million users, 500,000 points of sale, and over 1 billion transactions annually across Finland, Denmark, and Norway. We want to make payments easy, smart, and accessible.

Do you want to join us in making the world’s most loved wallet, replacing hassle with dazzle? Do you say yes to #oneteam, #keepitsimple and #noworries?

About the Team

As a Data Platform Lead at Vipps MobilePay, you’ll join and lead a team of three Data Platform Engineers in our Oslo office. Data Platform is part of the Data & Insights area with 18 people in total.

The Team Data Platform provides a marketplace for data and tooling for all the users. We are building and managing a modern data platform that connects data producers with data consumers. We enable teams to gain insights and solve problems with data (BI/DS/ML/AI) whilst respecting our users’ privacy and customers’ business interests.

Our data platform is built on Databricks and Unity Catalog. The infrastructure is managed with Terraform, automations with GitHub actions, and integrations with Python. The analytics community use tools such as dbt, Databricks notebooks and dashboards, Mixpanel and PowerBI.

What you will be doing?

We are seeking a leader with a solid engineering background, extensive experience in data infrastructure, and a proven track record of leading high-performing teams. Our work environment blends the stability of an established organization with the agility and innovation of a start-up. Successful candidates will be flexible, curious, and possess the humility to both teach and learn.

If this resonates with you and you are excited by the prospect of leading a young dynamic team through a period of significant change, we encourage you to apply!

You will be responsible for:

  • The people in the data platform team - ensuring satisfaction, professional growth and skill advancement for all members.
  • Delivering great platform capabilities to the rest of the organisation through understanding the needs of data producers and consumers.
  • Prioritising and planning this work and making sure we reduce complexity where we can.
  • The internal health of the data platform - ensuring performance, scalability, reliability, security, and cost-efficiency.
  • Data & Insights’ system architecture and the interfaces with other systems. Collaborate with technical architects from across the company to refine the data platform design, aligning it with strategic goals and simplifying processes.
  • Representing the Data Platform team in leadership meetings and contribute to the overall success of the Data & Insights area.

With the data and tooling made available on the Data platform, our co-workers can perform real-time fraud detection, strengthen anti-money laundering efforts, and enhance financial reporting aligned with our business strategy. We also enable our colleagues to meet regulatory requirements and support external stakeholders, including national statistics agencies, authorities, partner banks, and law enforcement.

        Skills & Requirements

        What are we looking for?

We’re looking for candidates with proven experience with data and cloud platforms, including a strong understanding of data infrastructure and cloud-based solutions. 8+ years of experience working in hands-on, product or team lead roles in the data space.

Other requirements that might describe you:

        • Experience leading and motivating team(s) toward the most important priorities to meet business needs and reach organizational goals
        • Ability and experience to thrive in fast-paced environments - preferably from consultancy or start-up/Scale-up
        • Experience with stakeholder management, communicating and selling ideas and visions effectively within the team, to internal and external stakeholders.
        • Structure work, delegate tasks, and always strive for efficiency by creating and maintaining a clear roadmap that ensures capacity for prioritised tasks.
        • Fluency in both written and spoken English, as English is our working language.

To thrive in this role, you should be passionate about fostering a positive, collaborative team culture where everyone feels supported, and possess strong communication skills to articulate ideas clearly and effectively.
