Would you like to contribute to the safer use of medicines and vaccines for everyone everywhere? Our commitment to global health drives us to create a world where access to life-saving treatments is not a privilege but a fundamental right. As a Azure Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting this mission by safeguarding our critical IT infrastructure.

Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is an independent, non-profit foundation and international centre for medicines safety and scientific research. UMC is a World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre and oversees the technical and scientific operations of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring (PIDM), which covers more than 95% of the world’s population. The organisation is the custodian of VigiBase, the largest global database of suspected adverse events of medicines and vaccines. In addition to working with drug safety signal monitoring, UMC has developed WHODrug Global, the world’s most widely used drug dictionary, and advances pharmacovigilance through science and innovation, education, and communication. UMC is governed by an international board appointed by the Swedish government and WHO and has approximately 150 employees based in Uppsala (Sweden).

We are looking for an Azure Engineer who wants to be part of the Azure journey we are on. Along this journey, you will work in a team driving the platform and overarching principles. You will also work together with teams in the organization supporting learning and development of product specific infrastructure.

The team you’ll be joining constantly works on refining their processes, systems, and areas of work. So, to fit in, we believe you should have an affinity for development and new ideas.

What you will do

  • Develop, maintain and operate the Azure platform landing zone including additional shared services.

  • Govern the Azure environment – evaluate, enhance, and enable enforceable policies, compliance and security reports and activities, cost and carbon optimisation. Ensure services are configured and operated according to the best practices and the organisation’s policies.

  • Manage the Azure environment by utilising and strengthening automation, improving resilience, and implementing and extending monitoring and alerts.

  • Work closely with enterprise architects and the application owners to design and implement the overarching requirements, security and the platform landing zone.

  • Work in a small team where overlapping competences are required so everyone can and should work with all aspects although areas may have appointed leads.
