Job title: Managing Director, IglooBooks

Location: Sywell, Northamptonshire

Working pattern: Full-time; minimum two days office-based

Reporting to: CEO, Bonnier Books UK

Salary: Dependent upon experience

General Summary

We are seeking a visionary, dynamic and results-driven managing director to lead IglooBooks, a division of Bonnier Books UK. This is a new and exciting opportunity that will focus on delivering the strategic, operational and creative direction of the business. The ideal candidate will be committed to producing high-quality, engaging, and accessible books for global audiences, leveraging strategic partnerships and a diverse range of titles to maintain the company’s position as a leader in mass-market publishing.

The managing director will adopt and implement group-led strategies and policies in collaboration with their senior management team, reporting into Bonnier Books UK’s CEO on strategic, financial, and performance matters.

Key responsibilities

  • Ownership and reporting of financial performance against budget; setting annual budgets; deliver and report against a rolling business plan.

  • Lead and develop the senior management team; foster a culture of continuous improvement and implement career development plans for the team.

  • Set the publishing strategy and commercial framework, guiding publishing teams to develop and deliver innovation whilst establishing a robust backlist of assets.

  • Lead and collaborate with sales directors across key markets, overseeing business development and identifying new market opportunities.

  • Work collaboratively with publishing and production teams to ensure the business delivers best market value formats and print prices.

  • Establish and develop relationships with key customers, printers and suppliers.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new licensors; grow the global partnership with Disney to ensure longevity.

  • Deliver wider group initiatives, including key objectives around sustainability goals.

  • Ensure adherence to Bonnier Books UK’s corporate governance principles and uphold ethical standards.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable UK legislation, regulations, and industry standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of leading a senior management team with exceptional team management skills.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong strategic thinking, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Commercial acumen and knowledge of the publishing world.

  • Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and drive revenue growth.

  • Experience of leading co-edition sales teams, production and publishing teams and working effectively with leading licensors.

  • A deep understanding of the UK, US and Asian markets.

  • Knowledge of English language export sales across multiple territories.
